• Overview
• Surf Internet seeks a part-time attorney licensed in Illinois with approximately 3-5 years of experience. The ideal candidate will have litigation or dispute-resolution experience and be comfortable handling a broad range of legal issues in a fast-paced business environment.
• This role is primarily focused on dispute management, litigation support, regulatory matters, compliance, legal research, and day-to-day business counseling. The successful candidate must be comfortable operating independently in a lean legal department without dedicated legal assistant support.

Responsibilities

• Assist with litigation, pre-litigation disputes, and claims management.
• Draft demand letters, settlement agreements, releases, and related correspondence.
• Coordinate with and manage outside counsel.
• Investigate and help resolve disputes involving customers, contractors, property owners, vendors, and other third parties.
• Support regulatory, permitting, compliance, and government affairs matters.
• Provide practical legal guidance to business and operational teams.
• Conduct legal research and prepare concise guidance memoranda.
• Develop policies, forms, and internal procedures.
• Review routine commercial agreements and identify legal risks when needed.
• Independently manage assigned matters, maintain organized files, track deadlines, and handle related administrative tasks without dedicated legal support staff.

Requirements

• J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school.
• Active Illinois law license in good standing.
• Eligible to practice law in Illinois without restriction.
• 3-5 years of legal experience preferred.
• Litigation, dispute resolution, or claims management experience strongly preferred.
• Strong legal research, writing, and analytical skills.
• Ability to provide practical, business-oriented legal advice.
• Strong organizational skills and ability to work independently.
• Demonstrated ability to manage legal matters with minimal supervision and without reliance on a legal assistant.
• Experience with telecommunications, construction, real estate, regulatory, municipal, or utility matters is a plus.
• Business-minded and solutions-oriented.
• A strong writer and communicator.
• Comfortable handling disputes and litigation-related matters.
• Self-motivated and able to work independently.
• Interested in developing broad in-house legal experience.
