Job description

• The General Accountant, reporting to the Accounting Supervisor, supports the financial operations of the Scalo Companies by performing a range of accounting duties with a focus on accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, bank reconciliations, and month-end close processes. The position requires strong analytical and communication skills, attention to detail, the ability to work independently with tight deadlines, proficiency in Microsoft Office, and a willingness to learn industry-specific accounting software.

Responsibilities

• Primary emphasis on Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Payroll, Bank Account Reconciliation, and month end close process
• General ledger, cash management
• Produce Work In Progress(WIP) and Backlog reports
• Reconcile financial discrepancies by collecting and analyzing account information
• Maintenance of accounting files
• Prepare special financial reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing account information and trends
• Provide exemplary, detail-oriented administrative support services to The Scalo Companies
• Complete accounting functions through various computer programs and working heavily in the MS Office package
• Ability to learn new software such as Sage Timberline, Timberscan
• Maintain customer confidence and protect operations by keeping financial information confidential
• Work in a fast-paced environment with monthly and weekly deadlines
• Respond to Team Member and customer inquiries in a timely manner and with a friendly, professional demeanor in a team environment
• Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

• Possess customer care focus and have ability to communicate effectively with people from diverse backgrounds
• Willingness to learn and provide assistance to all operational personnel –with willingness/enthusiasm to handle other tasks as necessary
• Ability to work independently and within a team effectively
• Possess a strong sense of accountability and high work standards
• Strong verbal and written communication skills with an emphasis on accuracy and details
• Ability to work in a sedentary position involving sitting and standing primarily with a majority of tasks completed via computer work
• Ability to work general business hours with occasional overtime hours due to business needs (Monthly financial statement preparation, end of month closing preparation, etc.)
• Degree in Accounting or a related field
• 2 years’ experience in an accounting-related position
• Job costing experience
• Construction industry experience
• Experience in Sage 300 accounting software
