Job description
- The Trading Engineer works on the C++ services at the core of the True Markets exchange — the matching engine, the clustered services around it, the market data pipeline, and the REST, WebSocket, and FIX gateways that clients trade through. The work is performance-critical and correctness-critical: order state, sequence integrity, and recovery behavior under failure. This is a growth role, starting on well-scoped pieces alongside a senior engineer and taking on independent ownership from there.
Responsibilities
- Build and maintain trading services in modern C++ on Linux.
- Deliver scoped slices of larger projects — a message path, a validation rule, a metric — from ticket to production deploy.
- Work on the market data pipeline: feed handlers, snapshot and sequence handling, client resync.
- Extend the client-facing gateways, including REST, WebSocket, and FIX surfaces.
- Write and maintain automated tests, and use them to prove behavior under failure and restart.
- Investigate production issues from logs, metrics, and dashboards, and follow them to a root cause.
- Support deploys and observability, including Grafana dashboards and Prometheus metrics.
- Participate in code review and keep documentation current.
Requirements
- 2+ years writing production systems code.
- Working proficiency in modern C++ (C++17 or newer) and its tooling — CMake, gcc/clang, a unit test framework.
- Comfortable developing on Linux: building, running, and debugging services from the command line.
- Understanding of concurrency and memory fundamentals, and why they matter for performance.
- AI-native: Claude Code or comparable agentic tooling as a daily force multiplier, with strong instincts for when to trust it, when to verify, and how to push it harder.
- Clear written communication, and the judgment to ask early rather than stall.
- Exposure to financial services, trading systems, or crypto — order books, order lifecycle, or market data.
- Familiarity with low-latency messaging or distributed consensus.
- Experience with a database in production, relational or document.
- Networking fundamentals and comfort reading a packet capture or a connection trace.
- Observability practice: metrics, dashboards, and log-driven debugging.
- Infrastructure as code and CI/CD exposure.
- Something built for its own sake — a systems project, a simulator, an open-source contribution.
