Job description
- The AMD Dedicated Technical Sales Engineer (TSE) owns the customer–AMD relationship in the Boston territory. That means building and holding senior relationships across systems architects, engineering leaders, and executive stakeholders — managing a disciplined pipeline, driving deal velocity, and being personally accountable for outcomes from design registration through production ramp. The TSE operates in a paired coverage model with an AMD Dedicated Field Applications Engineer (FAE), who owns the technical relationship and engineering engagement.
- This is a field sales role with an engineering audience. AMD's FPGA, Embedded SoC, and Embedded x86 device families serve customers across aerospace and defense, industrial automation, communications infrastructure, automotive electronics, and medical — markets where buying decisions are made by engineers and engineering managers, not procurement alone. The people who thrive here combine the drive to own a number and close with the relationship depth to build lasting customer trust at the executive level — and enough technical credibility to be taken seriously by the engineers who influence those decisions.
Responsibilities
- · Own AMD embedded revenue across the territory. Design registrations, design wins, and production ramp — you are accountable for the full commercial lifecycle from first engagement through volume production. Revenue is the measure of this role.
- · Build and sustain executive relationships. Engage systems architects, engineering managers, and executive stakeholders across the account base, and build the kind of trust that makes you the first call when a customer has a new program to place or a commercial decision to make.
- · Drive pipeline and demand creation. Actively identify new design opportunities before they appear in a CRM — engaging customers on upcoming programs, roadmap discussions, and technology transitions that create pull for AMD solutions. Don't wait for inbound; go find the next opportunity.
- · Manage the commercial motion end to end. Own pricing, supply chain alignment, deal structure, and competitive positioning across all active opportunities. Guide customers through AMD roadmap decisions and product selection in a way that locks in AMD for the next design cycle and the one after it.
- · Partner with the FAE to maintain technical momentum. Share account intelligence, align on opportunity priority, and keep the commercial side moving in sync with the technical design-in. You own the deal; the FAE owns the design — both have to move together.
- · Set the strategy and lead the team. Own the commercial vision for AMD in the territory — define which accounts and programs to prioritize, build the plan, and align the Avnet field sales organization to execute it. You are the AMD commercial lead in the territory, accountable for both the strategy and the results.
- · Enable the broader Avnet team. Coach Avnet field sales on AMD product positioning, design registration discipline, and when to escalate — multiplying your reach across accounts you cannot personally cover.
- · Represent AMD and Avnet at a high level. Customer sites, AMD QBRs, Avnet partner events, and the local electronics and embedded engineering community across the territory.
Requirements
- · Strategic leadership. You can build and own the commercial plan for a territory — identifying which accounts and programs matter, where AMD has the right to win, and how to sequence effort to maximize design-win conversion and production revenue. You create a playbook and hold the team to it.
- · Revenue ownership. A demonstrated track record of growing accounts and closing deals — with numbers to show for it. This role is measured on revenue, not activity.
- · Executive presence. Comfortable engaging at the VP and C-level. You can command a room, navigate organizational politics, and build lasting trust that survives personnel changes and competitive pressure.
- · Pipeline discipline and demand creation. You proactively build pipeline through customer engagement, roadmap conversations, and early identification of new programs — with rigorous CRM discipline and high forecast accuracy.
- · Commercial instinct and street smarts. You read situations fast, adapt by audience, and know when to push and when to listen. You can structure a deal, navigate price pressure, and close without burning the relationship.
- · Channel fluency. You understand how distributors, vendors, and end customers interact — and how to make that motion work in practice, including design registration, vendor coordination, and deal flow within a channel model.
- · Technical credibility. Enough familiarity with embedded computing, FPGAs, SoCs, or semiconductor solutions to hold a credible conversation with an engineering audience, ask the right questions, and recognize when to bring in the FAE.
- · Proactive, opportunity-driven mindset. You create pull for AMD solutions rather than reacting to what lands in the inbox, engaging customers on next-generation programs and roadmap decisions before those decisions are made.
- · Learning velocity. AMD's portfolio and the embedded market move fast. You have a track record of ramping on new products, markets, and customer environments quickly.
- · Experience: 8+ years in a revenue-generating, customer-facing technology sales role with direct quota or revenue accountability.
- · Track record: Named accounts grown, quota attainment history, and design wins or deals driven to close — with numbers and context behind them.
- · Technical baseline: Familiarity with embedded computing, FPGAs, SoCs, or semiconductor solutions sufficient to engage credibly with engineering audiences. AMD or Xilinx experience is a plus but not a requirement.
- · Location: Hybrid, customer-facing field role — candidates must be local to the upstate New York & Connecticut territory. This is a relationship and presence role; remote-only candidates are not a fit.
- Strong TSE candidates are defined less by where they came from and more by what they've built — accounts grown, deals owned, and revenue delivered under pressure. Successful TSEs have come from manufacturer's rep firms, semiconductor companies, distributors, and enterprise technology; what they share is a consistent history of personal revenue accountability and the commercial instincts to operate independently in a complex, technical selling environment.
