• At Markel, we're building a brand-new Portfolio Management & Pricing function and we're looking for a talented Portfolio Analyst to join us at the start of an exciting journey.
• Working alongside experienced actuaries, underwriters and business leaders, you'll play a key role in delivering the insight, analytics and intelligence that drives smarter underwriting and profitable growth.

• The Portfolio Management & Pricing team has recently been established to help Markel better understand, manage and optimise its insurance portfolio. Responsibilities

• As a Portfolio Analyst, you'll provide the data, insight and analytical support that underpins portfolio management and pricing activity across the business.
• Extracting, analysing and interpreting data from multiple sources.
• Supporting portfolio performance and profitability analysis.
• Producing management information and reporting packs.
• Assisting with Quarterly Business Reviews and strategic reporting.
• Supporting pricing model calibration and performance monitoring.
• Creating dashboards and analytical tools.
• Identifying trends, opportunities and emerging risks within the portfolio.
• Working with Underwriters and business stakeholders to support decision-making.
• Exploring how AI, automation and new technologies can improve efficiency and insight generation.

Requirements

• We're looking for someone who is naturally curious, enjoys working with data and wants to build a long-term career in analytics, pricing or portfolio management.
• A degree in a numerical discipline such as Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, Engineering, Physics or Data Science.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Advanced Excel capability.
• Experience using SQL, Python, Databricks or similar data tools.
• The ability to manipulate and interpret large datasets.
• Strong communication skills with the confidence to engage with stakeholders.
• A desire to learn, develop and take ownership of your work.
• Experience in an analytical, actuarial, pricing or data-focused role.
• Knowledge of insurance or financial services.
• Experience building reports, dashboards or visualisations.
• An interest in AI, automation and emerging technologies.
• A proactive approach and willingness to challenge existing ways of working.
