BI QA Analyst at SOTI in Kochi, India

Responsibilities

• Perform end-to-end quality assurance testing of Power BI reports, dashboards, and data outputs prior to business UAT and production release.
• Validate data accuracy, completeness, and consistency across source systems, data models, and report outputs.
• Develop and execute test plans, test cases, and validation scenarios based on business requirements and defined KPIs.
• Conduct functional testing to ensure reports meet business logic, calculations, filters, and expected user behaviour.
• Perform data reconciliation and root cause analysis for discrepancies, working closely with BI Engineers and Data Engineers to resolve issues.
• Serve as the primary QA gatekeeper, ensuring all reports and changes are thoroughly validated before release to business stakeholders.
• Collaborate with BI Engineering to validate new reports, enhancements, and data fixes in development and staging environments before business sharing.
• Partner with internal stakeholders to support structured UAT readiness, including preparing test datasets, scenarios, and acceptance criteria.
• Document testing results, defects, and resolutions, maintaining traceability and audit readiness.
• Ensure adherence to BI standards, governance practices, and data quality frameworks across all deliverables.
• Identify and proactively drive improvements in QA processes, testing coverage, and data validation practices.
• Support ongoing monitoring of production reports by validating data discrepancies, defects, and performance issues.

Requirements

• Required
• 3–5+ years of experience in Business Intelligence, Data Analytics, or Quality Assurance, preferably within a BI or data environment.
• Hands-on experience testing Power BI reports and dashboards (Tableau or Looker experience is an asset).
• Strong understanding of data validation, data quality principles, and reconciliation techniques.
• Proficiency in SQL for data querying, validation, and troubleshooting.
• Solid understanding of data models, ETL processes, and reporting logic within BI ecosystems.
• Experience creating and executing test cases, QA documentation, and defect tracking.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify root causes of data or logic issues.
• Ability to translate business requirements into structured QA validation scenarios.
• Familiarity with UAT processes, release workflows, and agile delivery environments.
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with both technical teams and business stakeholders.
• High attention to detail, with a strong focus on accuracy, consistency, and reliability of data outputs.
• Experience in a Power BI-centric BI Engineering team working with certified semantic models and structured deployment pipelines.
• Familiarity with Jira for defect tracking and release management.
• Understanding of data governance frameworks and BI delivery best practices.
