Senior Software Engineer - Design Systems at Netflix in USA - Remote

Job description

• XD Design Engineering is a small team of engineers with a big mandate: to develop, maintain, and innovate the Design Platform central to Netflix’s product development lifecycle. Our goal is to improve product development velocity without compromising on fidelity and to increase efficiency of the design/engineering handoff. Our portfolio includes API services, web apps, and Figma Plugins, serving a diverse range of cross-functional partners, from product designers and project managers to software engineers.
• In this high-impact role, you’ll work on a portfolio of productivity tools and automations designed to accelerate the product design lifecycle at Netflix. You’ll collaborate closely with system designers and engineers, to drive innovation around the distribution and adoption of the Design System. You'll lead and champion projects and effectively communicate their impact to partner teams. You will also gather input from stakeholders, identifying opportunities to help set a long-term technical strategy that continuously evolves the design tooling portfolio to ensure it remains best-in-class.

Responsibilities

• Contributing, maintaining, and expanding critical design component libraries and capabilities supporting hundreds of internal users (React)
• Implementing AI solutions, when appropriate, that measurably accelerate product design workflows
• Be the engineering lead on projects, working from ideation to implementation to rollout
• Conducting internal user-research to gather insights to inform prioritization and feature development
• Completing medium to large features independently without guidance
• Be the primary point of contact for support requests related to the Design System portfolio
• Work with designers and engineers across other teams to maintain the integrity and reliability of the Design System portfolio.
• Participate in on-call rotation to continue to meet our critical SLAs
• Conducting design and code reviews

Requirements

• 7+ years of professional experience designing, building, and shipping software
• Experience with single page applications architecture, patterns, and design
• Experience fetching data from GraphQL and REST APIs
• Experience with client-side instrumentation and observability
• Proven ability to lead projects and clearly and effectively communicate with partners
• Strong project scoping and project management skills
• Able to design, architect, debug, test, and create well-documented code
• Proficient in JavaScript/TypeScript, React, and Node.js
• You’re known for your excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
• You have an ownership mentality in all the things you build and are comfortable with identifying opportunities and driving forward-looking technical roadmaps
• You take a thoughtful, practical approach to problem-solving that considers tradeoffs and avoids over-engineering
• You’re motivated by the scope and impact to influence decisions that shape the future of design workflows
• You’re data driven and lean on both qualitative and quantitative data to drive your decision making
• You have a strong intuition for user experience flows
• Expert at managing web applications with complex state management
• Current/former professional experience working with Figma Plugin
• Bonus if you’ve contributed to open-source projects

• Generally, our compensation structure consists solely of an annual salary; we do not have bonuses. You choose each year how much of your compensation you want in salary versus stock options. To determine your personal top of market compensation, we rely on market indicators and consider your specific job family, background, skills, and experience to determine your compensation in the market range. The range for this role is $388,000.00 - $558,000.00. This compensation range will vary based on location.
