Job description

As the largest nonprofit affordable housing provider in the nation, we build, preserve, and manage program-enriched housing across the country.
- The Staff Accountant I is responsible for full-cycle accounting and for ensuring the accuracy and reasonableness of financial statements, narratives, and supporting schedules for assigned reporting entities.
- Location: 1600 Broadway Denver, CO | Hybrid, 1 day per week in-office
- Pay: $28.85-31.25/hour, depending on experience
Responsibilities
- Reconcile bank accounts accurately and in a timely manner, with attention to unusual items that remain outstanding at month end.
- Perform research on historical accounting transactions. Reconcile differences between A/P or A/R modules and G/L module.
- Prepare periodic financial statements (as directed by the Accounting Manager) within assigned time limits and accuracy standards.
- Create relevant and current explanation of financial statements in a narrative format for any financial statements released to users.
- Prepare financial statement related reports.
- Perform reporting required by outside agencies.
- Assist in the preparation of budgets and schedules for annual audit.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
- 1-2 years of accounting experience.
- Willingness to learn and seek advice and comment when appropriate from coworkers, the Accounting Manager, and others.
- Ability to understand and implement directives.
- Proficiency in spreadsheet and computerized accounting applications.
- Positive attitude, professionalism, and integrity.
- Self-initiative: ability to problem-solve and prioritize work.
- Ability to communicate clearly in both verbal and written form and relate effectively with others.
