• Are you an experienced accounting professional who enjoys having a hand in more than just the numbers? Our Upper Marlboro, MD based client is looking for an Accounting & Administrative Specialist to join their team and play an important role in the organization’s day-to-day operations.
• This is a diverse role that combines accounting, payroll, benefits administration, customer service, and general administrative support , making it a great opportunity for someone who enjoys variety and takes pride in keeping things organized and running smoothly. You’ll work with financial records, support employees with payroll and benefits, interact with customers, assist with the annual audit, and even contribute to the preparation of materials for publication.

Responsibilities

• Maintain accurate financial records, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and accounting ledgers
• Verify and post account transactions and ensure financial records are accurate and up to date
• Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports in accordance with accounting standards and internal policies
• Process employee payroll and maintain accurate records of vacation, sick leave, and other leave time
• Assist with employee benefits administration, including insurance and defined benefit/contribution plans, enrollment, changes, and terminations
• Reconcile bank accounts and other financial statements on a monthly basis
• Handle incoming phone calls, take customer orders, and assist with resolving customer questions or issues
• Accurately enter orders, process payments, and maintain customer records
• Assist with annual financial audits by providing required documentation and reports and supporting the review process
• Assist with preparing manuscripts and other materials for publication, including proofreading for grammar, formatting, and accuracy
• Perform other duties and administrative tasks as needed

Requirements

• Associate’s degree in Bookkeeping, Accounting, or a related field required; Bachelor’s degree preferred
• Minimum of 4 years of experience with payroll and accounts payable/receivable
• Experience handling sensitive and confidential information with discretion
• Experience with ADP Workforce Now is a plus
• Proficiency with QuickBooks and Microsoft Office Suite , including the ability to create, edit, review, and format spreadsheets and documents
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Prior editing or proofreading experience is a plus
• Exceptional interpersonal, customer service, and time management skills
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy
• Ability to manage multiple responsibilities and priorities in a professional office environment

Benefits

• Up to $65K annually, with the final salary determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, licensure, and relevant certifications. The compensation range is subject to change and may be modified at any time.
