Job description

• The Controller is a key member of the Finance team and is responsible for overseeing the organization's day-to-day accounting operations, financial reporting, compliance, and internal controls. Reporting to the Associate Director of Finance, this role provides leadership for accounting functions, supervises accounting staff, and ensures the integrity of financial data across multiple funding sources, including government grants and restricted funds.

Responsibilities

• Oversee general ledger activities, account reconciliations, and monthly and annual close processes.
• Prepare timely and accurate financial statements, management reports, and supporting analyses.
• Manage core accounting functions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and cash management.
• Ensure compliance with GAAP, nonprofit accounting standards, grant requirements, and internal policies.
• Lead grant and fund accounting activities, including tracking restricted funding and preparing required financial reports.
• Coordinate the annual financial audit and support the preparation of Form 990 and other regulatory filings.
• Maintain and strengthen internal controls, accounting procedures, and financial processes.
• Supervise, mentor, and develop accounting staff, fostering a collaborative and high-performing team environment.
• Partner with organizational leadership on budgeting, forecasting, financial planning, and process improvement initiatives.
• Support ongoing system enhancements and optimization of financial reporting tools, including NetSuite.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.
• Five or more years of progressive accounting experience, including financial reporting and general ledger management.
• CPA designation or progress toward CPA certification preferred.
• Experience in nonprofit accounting, grant accounting, and fund accounting strongly preferred.
• Supervisory or team leadership experience strongly preferred.
• Strong knowledge of GAAP, nonprofit accounting standards, and federal grant compliance requirements.
• Proficiency with ERP systems and advanced Microsoft Excel skills; NetSuite experience is a plus.
• Excellent analytical, organizational, communication, and problem-solving abilities.
