Director of Field Operations at Flagger Force in US-VA-Richmond

Job description

• The Director of Field Operations provides strategic and operational leadership for all field operations within an assigned territory. This position is accountable for the safe, reliable and profitable delivery of short-term traffic control services while achieving customer service, employee, financial and growth objectives.
• As a senior market leader, the Director is expected to actively grow the business by strengthening existing customer relationships, identifying upcoming projects and new revenue opportunities, developing relationships with prospective customers and industry partners, and collaborating with Sales and other internal teams to expand the company's presence and market share.
• The Director leads and develops Field Managers and field leadership, ensures staff and resources are aligned with demand, drives performance through measurable results, and creates a culture of safety, accountability, customer focus, continuous improvement and responsible growth.

Responsibilities

• Provides direct leadership, coaching and performance management to Field Managers and other assigned operations leaders within the territory. The Director establishes clear expectations, monitors performance against operational and growth objectives, develops succession plans, and ensures leaders have the tools, training and support required to succeed.
• The Director has authority to make operational and personnel decisions within established company policies and budget parameters and is responsible for building a high-performing leadership team that consistently delivers safe, efficient and customer-focused results.
• Operational Leadership
• Provide strategic direction and accountability for all field operations within the assigned territory, including multiple Field Managers, field leaders and dispersed field teams.
• Develop and execute territory operating plans that align staffing, equipment, fleet, training and other resources with current demand, projected customer needs and anticipated growth.
• Partner with the Operations Service Center to optimize scheduling, deployment, utilization, responsiveness and service delivery.
• Establish, monitor and improve key performance indicators related to safety, quality, productivity, labor utilization, service levels, employee retention, revenue, profitability and customer satisfaction.
• Review operating results, identify performance gaps and implement corrective actions and continuous-improvement initiatives.
• Develop and manage territory budgets, forecasts and resource plans; maintain accountability for cost control, financial performance and profitable growth.
• Business Development and Market Growth
• Own and drive growth within the assigned territory by actively identifying new business opportunities and opportunities to expand existing customer relationships.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with existing and prospective customers, contractors, utilities, municipalities, project managers and other key market stakeholders.
• Maintain an active presence in the market and develop relationships that provide visibility into upcoming projects, bids, infrastructure work and temporary traffic control needs.
• Partner closely with Sales to develop territory growth strategies, qualify opportunities, support proposals and presentations, participate in customer meetings and convert opportunities into profitable business.
• Expand existing accounts by understanding customer plans, service needs, challenges and opportunities for the company to provide additional services.
• Represent the company at customer meetings, industry events, association meetings and networking opportunities that strengthen market awareness and generate business leads.
• Maintain awareness of competitors, market conditions, customer activity and infrastructure investment within the territory, and communicate relevant insights to leadership and Sales.
• Track and report business-development activity and results, including pipeline opportunities, new customer acquisition, account growth, retention, revenue and market-share progress.
• Customer Relationship Management
• Serve as a senior operational point of contact for key customers and maintain regular executive-level communication regarding service, performance, and upcoming work and partnership opportunities.
• Proactively address customer concerns, resolve escalated service issues and implement sustainable solutions that strengthen customer confidence and retention.
• Conduct regular customer visits and field visits to evaluate service delivery, understand customer expectations and identify opportunities for improvement or growth.
• Review customer feedback, satisfaction measures and service trends and ensure appropriate follow-up and accountability.
• Safety, Quality and Compliance
• Champion a safety-first culture and ensure compliance with company safety standards, customer requirements and applicable local, state and federal laws and regulations.
• Conduct as well as oversee field inspections and operational audits by Field Leadership to assess work-zone quality, employee performance, regulatory compliance and adherence to company procedures.
• Partner with Safety, Risk and Training teams to address trends, implement corrective actions and reduce incidents, claims and operational exposure.
• Ensure leaders consistently reinforce safe work practices, quality standards and accountability at every level of the field organization.
• People Leadership and Organizational Development
• Recruit, select, onboard, coach, develop and evaluate Field Managers and other field operations leaders.
• Conduct monthly one-on-one meetings and annual performance reviews to ensure individual goals, development plans and company objectives are understood and achieved.
• Build leadership bench strength through succession planning, talent reviews, career development and targeted coaching of high-potential employees.
• Partner with Human Resources on staffing, employee relations, compensation, performance management, retention and workforce-planning matters.
• Create an inclusive, accountable and high-performing culture that supports employee engagement, collaboration and operational excellence.
• Actively engage in company social media (ITZ) to support employee engagement.
• Cross-Functional Leadership
• Collaborate effectively with Sales, the Operations Service Center, Safety, Human Resources, Finance, Fleet, Training, Technology and other departments to achieve company objectives.
• Provide leadership with timely and accurate operational, financial, customer and market updates, including risks, opportunities and recommended actions.
• Lead or participate in cross-functional projects and strategic initiatives that improve scalability, customer service and organizational performance.
• Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

• Bachelor’s Degree and/or minimum of 10 years experience in managem ent
