Job description
- The Lead Compensation Business Partner at Indeed will support multiple business areas and serve as a primary compensation partner for assigned client groups. In this role, the individual will manage partnerships with People Business Partners, Talent Acquisition, Finance, business leaders and other cross-functional partners on complex compensation decisions, programs and business needs.
- This role handles highly complex assignments requiring deep functional knowledge, business acumen and a high degree of independent judgment. It applies compensation philosophy, market data, job architecture, internal equity and business context to support offers, internal mobility, promotions, governance, annual compensation processes (including compensation planning), bonus programs, organizational design questions and other compensation-related decisions. The Lead Compensation Business Partner is expected to navigate ambiguity with confidence, challenge assumptions, influence through clear rationale, and deliver practical, scalable solutions that support both the business and consistent compensation outcomes.
Responsibilities
- Serve as a primary compensation partner for technical client groups, providing strategic day-to-day support and guidance across compensation matters.
- Advise People Business Partners, Recruiters and Leaders on offers, internal mobility, promotions, focal compensation processes and ad-hoc requests using established compensation frameworks, sound judgment and business context.
- Review market data, assess job architecture alignment and recommend compensation ranges and positioning based on Indeed’s established methodology while balancing internal equity and business needs.
- Analyze complex compensation scenarios and resolve high-impact compensation challenges by building reliable analytical models, identifying patterns, risks, inconsistencies or tradeoffs, and presenting recommendations in a clear and actionable way.
- Drive effective execution of established compensation processes while identifying and advancing practical opportunities to improve clarity, consistency, quality or efficiency in assigned work and adjacent processes.g straightforward opportunities to improve clarity, quality, or efficiency in assigned work.
- Build effective, trusted relationships with partners and senior leaders across multiple business areas and drive alignment on compensation decisions that may require influence across teams or functions.
- Communicate compensation guidance, recommendations and policy clearly to partners, including in nuanced or sensitive situations that require smart framing, judgment and credibility.
- Contribute to broader team success by sharing insights, identifying themes, supporting consistency across decisions and helping raise the quality of compensation work beyond the immediate client group.
Requirements
- Requires a minimum of 10 years of related experience; or a minimum of 8 years with a Bachelor’s degree; or 6 years and a Master’s degree; or a PhD with 3 years experience.
- Problem Solving & Decision-Making: Frames complex compensation issues clearly, identifies the most relevant drivers, and translates ambiguity into practical solutions using established principles, sound judgment and business context. Demonstrates the ability to make complex compensation decisions across multiple business areas, balancing market data, internal equity, business context and compensation philosophy.
- Analytics & Modeling: Synthesizes market data, internal data and business inputs to generate clear insights, build reliable and robust models, and identify material risks, inconsistencies, tradeoffs and root causes. Comfortable working with market data, modeling, job architecture and compensation frameworks to solve ambiguous, high-impact problems.
- Process Design & Execution: Understands the end-to-end requirements, dependencies and risks in established compensation processes and helps execute them effectively, while identifying scalable opportunities to improve clarity, consistency, quality or efficiency. Applies sound judgment within system, process and governance requirements.
- Compensation Expertise & Tools: Demonstrates practical knowledge across compensation disciplines and applies that expertise to complex decisions, ambiguous situations and broader business questions. Advanced proficiency in Google Sheets and Excel, including the ability to build reliable models, synthesize data and translate outputs into actionable recommendations. Experience using Workday and familiarity with Tableau, Pave and other compensation tools.
- Communication & Partnership: Communicates compensation guidance, recommendations and policy clearly and credibly across multiple business areas, including when decisions require nuance, influence or change management. Builds trust across levels and functions, understands competing needs, and helps drive aligned outcomes on complex compensation matters.
- Ownership & One Team Orientation: Owns high-impact work end-to-end, maintains momentum through ambiguity, and extends partnership beyond the immediate client group to strengthen team outcomes, consistency and shared success.
