Senior Back End Web Developer at BLN24 in McLean, VA

Job description

• BLN24 is seeking a Senior Back End Web Developer to support CFPB's RegTech BPA program by designing, building, and optimizing the back-end services behind public-facing regulatory applications. This role requires deep experience with Scala and the Akka Toolkit, CQRS and event-driven architecture, and high-performance API and database development within containerized microservices orchestrated by Kubernetes.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain back-end services using Scala and the Akka Toolkit, applying functional programming, reactive programming, and actor-based concurrency
• Build and evolve components of a CQRS, event-driven architecture
• Develop and optimize database queries across relational and non-relational stores, including PostgreSQL and Cassandra / AWS Keyspaces
• Implement data access layers using Slick or comparable ORM libraries
• Build and optimize APIs that handle complex JSON payloads
• Write unit and integration tests that validate end-to-end API responses
• Develop containerized microservices for Docker and deploy them on Kubernetes
• Manage source code, reviews, and planning in GitHub, collaborating with architects, front-end developers, and product owners in an Agile team

Requirements

• 8+ years of professional back-end development experience
• Experience in functional programming using Scala, including the Akka Toolkit, the reactive programming model, and actor-based concurrency
• Experience working on a CQRS, event-driven architecture
• Demonstrated experience developing and optimizing database queries in relational (SQL) and non-relational (NoSQL) structures, such as PostgreSQL and Cassandra / AWS Keyspaces
• Expertise using Slick or another Object Relational Mapping (ORM) library
• Expertise building and optimizing APIs with complex JSON payloads
• Experience creating unit tests and integration tests that validate end-to-end API responses
• Experience developing containerized microservices, with specific skills developing for Docker containers using Kubernetes orchestration
• Experience working with GitHub for source code management and planning
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field; Master's degree preferred
• Experience using asynchronous Python methodologies or similar
• Experience with a front-end framework such as VueJS, especially ReactJS
• Demonstrated experience working on open-source projects, including delivering public-facing solutions
• Prior engagement at CFPB or other federal financial regulators (e.g., FDIC, OCC, SEC, FRB, NCUA)
• Experience delivering solutions in a federal FISMA Moderate or comparable security-compliance environment
