Job description

• The Electrician II is a journey level position in the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems, equipment, and fixtures. Installs, maintains, alters, and repairs wiring, electrical devices, machinery, and equipment. Work assignments are received from a foreman or other supervisor and are performed independently and in accordance with accepted trade practices. Work is reviewed through inspection of completed work for quality and compliance with work orders and is further evaluated based on the continued workability of equipment, systems, and fixtures repaired or installed.

Responsibilities

• • Conduit Installation: Measures, cuts, threads, bends, assembles, and installs conduit to protect electrical paths.
• • Blueprint Comprehension: Reads and interprets complex blueprints, technical drawings, and official trade codes.
• • Wiring & Splicing: Draws wire through installed conduit and performs all necessary splicing and soldering.
• • Equipment Integration: Installs and securely connects various facility equipment directly to existing wiring systems.
• • Power Infrastructure: Installs critical power systems including transformers, switchgear, panels, disconnects, and primary or secondary busways.
• • Troubleshooting & Repairs: Diagnoses, locates, and repairs faults in electric motors, control systems, building wiring, and shop equipment.

Requirements

• Salary Grade Range: $41,206 - $72,113
• Candidates now meet the minimum qualifications of a position if they meet the minimum education and experience listed on the vacancy announcement.
• The Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)/ Management Preferences are not required. Applicants who possess the following skills are preferred:
• Considerable knowledge of the standard practices and methods of the electrical trade.
• Skill in the use and care of tools of the trade.
• Ability to locate and correct defects in electrical systems and equipment.
• Ability to read and work from blueprints and sketches.
• Ability to train apprentices in the electrical trade.
• Some state job postings say you can qualify by an “equivalent combination of education and experience.” If that language appears below, then you may qualify through EITHER years of education OR years of directly related experience, OR a combination of both. • High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two years of experience in the construction or repair of secondary electrical systems; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Based on the nature of work performed, may require appropriate licensure by the governing board or commission.
• Current Electrical License.
• A valid NC Driver’s License is required to fully perform the duties of this position.
