Job description

• Position Type: Full-Time Contract (40hrs/week)
• Contract Duration: 6+ months
• Work Schedule: 8 hours/day (Mon-Fri)
• Location: Hybrid (Wed/Thursday in office) - Hyderabad , India
• We are looking for a Senior Java Engineer with 8+ years of experience who can independently design, develop, deploy, and support Java 17+, Spring Boot, REST APIs, microservices, and AWS cloud-native applications.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain Java and Spring Boot applications, microservices, and secure REST APIs.
• Own technical solutions from architecture and API design through implementation, deployment, and production operation.
• Build and modernize cloud-native applications in AWS while improving scalability, resilience, maintainability, and operational readiness.
• Design and implement integrations with API gateways, identity providers, databases, internal platforms, downstream services, and external partners.
• Apply API security controls including authentication, authorization, OAuth 2.0, JWT validation, encryption, secrets handling, input validation, and protection of sensitive data.
• Design maintainable API contracts with appropriate versioning, backward compatibility, idempotency, validation, error handling, and traffic protection. Build fault-tolerant services using resilience patterns such as timeouts, retries with backoff, circuit breakers, bulkheads, rate limiting, graceful degradation, health checks, and failover.
• Improve software quality through automated unit, integration, component, contract, and performance testing.
• Strengthen observability using structured logging, metrics, tracing, correlation identifiers, dashboards, service-level indicators, and actionable alerts. Diagnose complex application and integration issues, lead root-cause analysis, and implement corrective actions that prevent recurring failures.
• Contribute to CI/CD automation, automated quality controls, vulnerability remediation, and production-readiness activities.
• Analyze application performance, capacity, and cloud-resource usage and implement improvements where they provide measurable value. Participate in technical design reviews, code reviews, requirements refinement, estimation, and solution planning.
• Identify technical debt and recommend practical improvements to architecture, security, resilience, code quality, and developer productivity. Create clear technical documentation covering architecture decisions, API behavior, integrations, operations, and troubleshooting.
• Collaborate with engineers, architects, product owners, security teams, and platform teams while providing technical guidance to other engineers

Requirements

• Eight or more years of professional software engineering experience, or comparable experience demonstrating senior-level technical capability. Strong hands-on development experience with modern Java, preferably Java 17 or later.
• Strong experience developing production applications with Spring Boot and the broader Spring ecosystem.
• Demonstrated experience designing, building, and operating REST APIs, microservices, and distributed systems in production.
• Practical experience developing cloud-native and containerized applications in AWS.
• Strong knowledge of API security, including OAuth 2.0, JWT, authentication, authorization, encryption, secrets handling, input validation, and secure coding practices.
• Strong API design experience, including contracts, versioning, backward compatibility, idempotency, validation, error handling, and traffic protection.
• Strong knowledge of software architecture, object-oriented design, design patterns, resilience patterns, clean code, and engineering best practices.
• Experience designing fault-tolerant systems using failure isolation, recovery, concurrency, consistency, and service-dependency management practices.
• Experience applying resilience patterns such as timeouts, retries, circuit breakers, bulkheads, rate limiting, graceful degradation, health checks, and failover.
• Experience developing integrations with multiple data sources, partner systems, or third-party platforms.
• Experience with relational databases, SQL, data modeling, transactions, and database-performance considerations.
• Experience creating automated unit, integration, component, contract, and service-level tests.
• Experience using Git, Linux or Unix, build automation, CI/CD, dependency management, and debugging tools.
• Strong production troubleshooting, observability, performance analysis, scalability testing, and root-cause analysis skills.
• Ability to independently lead complex engineering work from problem definition through production delivery.
• Ability to evaluate technical trade-offs and communicate recommendations clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Experience with Apigee, AWS API Gateway, or another enterprise API-management platform.
• Experience deploying and operating services using AWS ECS.
• Experience with Terraform, Jenkins, or comparable infrastructure and delivery automation tools.
• Experience with Splunk, Dynatrace, Okta, or comparable observability and identity platforms.
• Experience modernizing legacy applications or designing highly available, multi-region systems.
• Experience with event-driven architectures, messaging platforms, or asynchronous processing.
• Experience with cryptography and secure payload patterns such as ECDH, ECDSA, HPKE, JWE, digital signatures, or key management.
• Experience developing software for regulated environments or systems that process sensitive consumer data.
• Experience developing AI-enabled solutions using large language models, retrieval-augmented generation, intelligent automation, or related technologies.
• Practical experience using modern coding agents or AI-assisted development tools while reviewing generated code, protecting confidential information, and validating security, correctness, and engineering quality.
