Job description

• The Senior Banking Data & Customer Insights Analyst serves as a banking subject-matter specialist within the Bank’s data and analytics team. This position works with business leaders to understand banking needs, identify opportunities, and translate business questions into clear analytical requirements. The position applies knowledge of banking products, operations, customer relationships, pricing, profitability, and risk to help the data team deliver useful insights and recommendations. The role works closely with the Director of Data Engineering & Analytics and technical team members to ensure data, reports, dashboards, and analysis address meaningful business needs and support measurable outcomes for the Bank.

Responsibilities

• Serve as a banking subject-matter specialist for the data and analytics team, bringing practical knowledge of banking products, processes, customers, and financial performance to analytical work
• Partners with leaders and employees across lending, deposits, branch banking, treasury management, public funds, finance, operations, marketing, risk, and other areas to understand business needs and establish clear analytical requirements
• Anticipate banking questions, risks, and opportunities that can be addressed through data and deliver high value outcomes back to the business
• Translate banking needs, processes, and opportunities into clear requirements, business rules, measures, and expected outcomes for data analysts, engineers, and technical partners
• Identify the underlying business question behind reporting and data requests, recognize when additional analysis is needed
• Analyze customer and household relationships across deposits, loans, related parties, products, services, and delivery channels to help the Bank understand total relationship value and opportunity
• Analyze banking products, balances, transactions, pricing, fees, account activity, portfolio performance, customer behavior, and other information needed to support business decisions
• Use analytical methods to identify patterns, trends, differences, exceptions, risks, and opportunities in Bank data and explain why the findings matter
• Develop practical recommendations and outcomes that support customer retention, relationship growth, pricing decisions, profitability, operating efficiency, and risk management
• Present findings in plain business language, including the business question, what the data shows, why it matters, recommended next steps, expected benefit, and how results will be measured
• Create and maintain reports, dashboards, analytical models, performance measures, and other tools that support key business decisions
• Help define meaningful key performance indicators and consistent business definitions for customers, households, relationships, products, balances, profitability, and other important banking measures
• Validate analytical assumptions, business definitions, and results with the appropriate business and technical partners before significant findings are used for decision-making
• Identify data-quality issues that may affect business decisions and work with technical and business owners to resolve or clearly disclose those issues
• Document data sources, business rules, assumptions, limitations, validation performed, and repeatable analytical processes
• Collaborate with data engineers and IT professionals to support reliable data collection, storage, retrieval, and use while providing the banking context needed for technical design decisions
• Help technical team members strengthen their understanding of Bank products, customer relationships, transactions, pricing, and operating processes
• Maintain current knowledge of internal risk controls and loss prevention, including reporting of suspicious or unusual customer activity per Bank policy, and ensure adherence by the respective department personnel
• Helps identify KPIs and develop metrics to track and measure bank performance
• Maintain current knowledge of and comply with all federal and state laws and regulations and all established Bank policies and procedures, including internal audit controls related to department operations
• Maintain current knowledge of all rules, regulations, and laws as they apply to BSA/OFAC/USA Patriot Act/CIP/AML
• Maintains current knowledge of internal risk controls and loss prevention, including reporting of suspicious or unusual customer activity per Bank policy, and ensures adherence by the respective department personnel
• Maintains current knowledge and complies with all federal and state laws and regulations and all established Bank policies and procedures, including internal audit controls related to department operations, and ensures adherence by the respective department personnel
• Maintains current knowledge of all rules, regulations, and laws as they apply to BSA/OFAC/USA Patriot Act/CIP/AML, and ensures adherence by the respective department personnel

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in finance, accounting, economics, business administration, data analytics, information systems, or a related field
• Minimum of 5 years of direct banking experience and relevant experience in financial services, business analysis, data analysis, finance, operations, and related areas
• Working knowledge of multiple banking areas, such as lending, deposits, branch banking, treasury management, public funds, finance, operations, customer relationships, pricing, or profitability
• Demonstrated ability to understand business processes, identify the underlying business question, and translate business needs into clear analytical requirements
• Demonstrated ability to interpret data, identify meaningful findings, and make practical business recommendations
• Ability to communicate effectively with executives, bankers, operations employees, analysts, data engineers, and other technical staff
• Able to explain complex banking and analytical concepts in clear, direct language tailored to the audience
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to resolve complex issues with minimal direction
• Ability to use performance measures and data to provide insights, recommend action, and evaluate whether the intended result was achieved
• Working knowledge of relational databases, reporting methods, data quality, and business intelligence practices
• Proficiency with Microsoft Power BI, Tableau, or similar visual reporting tools
• Working knowledge of SQL is preferred; knowledge of Python or similar analytical tools is helpful but not required
• Knowledge of financial-institution regulations and risk requirements applicable to the role, including fair lending, consumer compliance, customer privacy, internal controls, and BSA/AML requirements
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills; able to express ideas concisely and logically
• Ability to meet deadlines, work in a fast-paced environment, and perform a variety of tasks with numerous interruptions
• Ability to sit in front of a computer screen for long periods of time, which may cause visual strain
• Bilingual in English and Spanish is desired
