Job description

• Baystate Health is seeking a Patient Care Technician to join our Medical Surgical at Baystate Wing Hospital in Palmer, Massachusetts. Our Medical Surgical unit is a 46-bed unit includes telemetry and intermediate care and provides care for the emergency department’s overflow. Nurses are cross trained to provide coverage in telemetry, IMC and the ED for this reason, making this a great opportunity for a new nurse looking to gain experience in multiple specialties.
• Baystate Wing Hospital is a 74-bed community hospital in Palmer, Massachusetts, fully accredited by the Joint Commission and designated a Primary Stroke Service hospital by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health.

Responsibilities

• Provided safe, age-appropriate patient care, assisting with activities of daily living, mobility, elimination, and personal care while promoting patient dignity and safety.
• Monitored and accurately documented vital signs, weights, intake/output, and other physiological parameters; promptly reported significant changes in patient condition to nursing staff.
• Assisted with treatments, procedures, dressing changes, specimen collection, point-of-care testing, and physician examinations in accordance with hospital policies and procedures.
• Provided one-to-one patient observation as needed, recognized changes in patient condition or safety concerns, and responded appropriately to emergency situations.
• Collaborated effectively with nurses, physicians, and interdisciplinary team members while maintaining clear communication, accurate documentation, and patient-centered care.
• Make a meaningful difference every day. As a Patient Care Technician, you’ll provide hands-on care, support patient safety and comfort, recognize important changes in condition, and work alongside nurses and the broader care team to help patients achieve the best possible outcomes.

Requirements

• High School diploma or GED
• BLS CPR Certification through American Heart Association
• GED or HiSET
• Basic Life Support - American Heart Association, Certified Nurse Aide - Other
• At least one year of patient care experience (this experience can vary in level of long-term care, specialty, acute care
• PCT training or CNA training
