Job description

• Blue Water Thinking is seeking an experienced and dedicated Tech Writer/Editor Sr to join our team, supporting the VHA CCPI Data Analytics and Support Services. The Tech Writer/Editor Sr will perform writing and editing activities across a variety of technical and business materials, translating complex technical and healthcare information into clear, accurate, and readable documentation for both technical and non-technical personnel. This role will support the development, editing, and delivery of high-quality documentation for Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Write, edit, and proofread materials such as reports, regulations, articles, newsletters, magazines, news releases, training materials, brochures, interpretive handbooks, pamphlets, guidebooks, scholarly works, reference materials, speeches, scripts, and other customer deliverables.
• Gather, analyze, and compose technical information required for the preparation of user manuals, training materials, installation guides, proposals, reports, and related documentation.
• Edit functional descriptions, system specifications, user manuals, special reports, and other customer deliverables and documents to ensure accuracy, clarity, consistency, and quality.
• Conduct research and ensure the appropriate use of technical terminology, with particular attention to medical and healthcare industry terminology.
• Translate complex technical information into clear, concise, and readable documentation for technical and non-technical audiences.
• Collaborate with technical staff, subject matter experts, analysts, project managers, healthcare professionals, and other stakeholders to collect and validate information.
• Develop and maintain documentation supporting VHA CCPI data analytics, systems, processes, workflows, and operational activities.
• Review source materials and identify inconsistencies, information gaps, terminology issues, and opportunities for improved clarity.
• Apply established writing, editing, formatting, and documentation standards across project deliverables.
• Use computer-based systems and documentation tools to create, edit, format, organize, and maintain technical content.
• Incorporate stakeholder feedback and revisions while maintaining document accuracy, consistency, and version control.
• Support the development and maintenance of documentation templates, style guides, standard operating procedures, and editorial processes.
• Manage multiple documentation assignments and priorities while meeting established project schedules and deadlines.
• Ensure completed documentation is professional, technically accurate, well-organized, and appropriate for its intended audience.
• Support continuous improvement of documentation processes and deliverable quality across the project.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
• Eight (8) years of professional experience in technical writing, technical editing, communications, documentation, or a related field.
• Strong experience writing and editing a broad range of professional and technical materials, including reports, training materials, user manuals, proposals, system documentation, and customer deliverables.
• Strong experience working with computer-based systems and documentation tools.
• Demonstrated experience gathering, analyzing, and composing technical information for user manuals, training materials, installation guides, proposals, reports, and other documentation.
• Demonstrated experience editing functional descriptions, system specifications, user manuals, special reports, and other technical documents.
• Experience conducting research and applying proper technical terminology, including medical and healthcare terminology.
• Strong understanding of medical and healthcare industry terminology.
• Demonstrated ability to translate complex technical information into clear, readable documentation for both technical and non-technical personnel.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including strong grammar, spelling, punctuation, and proofreading abilities.
• Strong attention to detail and demonstrated ability to maintain accuracy and consistency across complex documentation.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders, subject matter experts, and project teams.
• Ability to manage multiple assignments, establish priorities, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced, client-focused environment.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for employer sponsorship, now or at any time in the future
• Must be able to obtain and maintain the required federal public trust clearance for this role
• Experience supporting the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) or Veterans Health Administration (VHA).
• Experience supporting federal government healthcare, data analytics, information technology, or enterprise systems programs.
• Experience developing documentation for healthcare information systems, electronic health records, clinical data, or health information technology environments.
• Experience with VHA data analytics, reporting, business intelligence, or data management initiatives.
• Familiarity with federal government documentation standards, policies, procedures, and customer deliverable requirements.
• Experience developing standard operating procedures, process documentation, technical specifications, training materials, and knowledge-management content.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, SharePoint, and other commonly used documentation and collaboration tools.
• Familiarity with Section 508 accessibility requirements and developing accessible electronic documents.
• Familiarity with the Government Publishing Office (GPO) Style Manual or other professional editorial and technical-writing standards.
• Experience working in Agile, Scrum, or other structured project delivery environments.
• Experience with document management, content management, version control, and collaborative editing platforms.
• Ability to communicate complex technical and healthcare concepts effectively to executives, analysts, technical personnel, healthcare professionals, and end users.

• Salary for this position is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, location, the candidate’s particular combination of knowledge, skills, competencies and experience, as well as contract specific affordability and organizational requirements.
• Salary range: $85,000-$105,000
