Payroll Specialist at Thornton Tomasetti in Pune, India

Job description

• We are seeking a payroll professional to join our growing Finance & Accounting team at Thornton Tomasetti and own day-to-day operations of our India payroll. This role will report to the Global Payroll Manager and work closely with HR, Finance, IT, and external payroll vendors. This is an excellent opportunity for a payroll professional who wants ownership of the India payroll while also contributing to process improvements, compliance, and the implementation of a new global payroll platform.

Responsibilities

• Own the end-to-end processing of the monthly payroll for 400+ employees, reviewing payroll inputs, reports, and time sheets to ensure payroll is processed accurately and on time with the payroll vendor Paysquare.
• Resolve payroll discrepancies, adjustments, and employee inquiries in a timely manner.
• Prepare payroll related journal entries.
• Ensure time and attendance processes comply with local labor laws and statutory requirements.
• Ensure all statutory deductions, filings, and remittances are completed accurately and on time.
• Maintain payroll procedures, controls, and documentation to support consistency, automation, and audit readiness.
• Support month-end, quarter-end, and year-end activities, audits, and the transition to a new global payroll platform.

Requirements

• 3-5 years of progressive experience in payroll operations.
• Knowledge of processing payroll within Workday (HRIS), ADP Celergo, or similar 3rd party platforms and vendors.
• Knowledge of accurately processing food allowances, gratuity, PTO/vacation payouts, and final settlements in compliance with local laws and regulations.
• Strong organizational skills with a structured, process-driven approach and the ability to manage confidential payroll information with integrity and professionalism.
• Bachelor’s degree in finance or related field.
• Working knowledge of Indian taxes (TDS), ESI, PF, PT, and other critical payroll items.
• Proven knowledge of and commitment to compliance with federal, state, and local payroll regulations.
• Experience supporting payroll controls, reconciliations, and audit readiness.
• Exposure to global payroll operations or global payroll platform implementations is a plus.
