HR Generalist at EmeryAllen in Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina

Job description

• We are seeking an HR Generalist to work onsite at our Mount Pleasant headquarters. This role will have real ownership of the employee experience — from the first job posting a candidate sees to the leadership development program that helps our people grow. This role will have a meaningful impact, providing hands-on support across recruiting, onboarding, employee relations, benefits administration, and compliance while helping to foster a positive and engaging workplace culture.

Responsibilities

• Recruiting & Onboarding
• Partner with hiring managers and the leadership team to understand workforce needs and develop effective job postings.
• Source, screen, and coordinate interviews to attract high-quality candidates.
• Manage the offer and onboarding process, ensuring a smooth and engaging new-hire experience, including monitoring and reviewing the performance of all new hires through their 90-day benchmark.
• Maintain job descriptions and participate in compensation benchmarking as needed.
• Conduct new hire orientation sessions to introduce employees to company culture, values, and policies.
• Employee Relations & Engagement
• Serve as a trusted resource for employees and managers regarding policies, procedures, and conflict resolution.
• Handle employee relations issues with professionalism, confidentiality, and empathy.
• Promote company culture through employee recognition, engagement initiatives, and internal communication.
• Conduct stay interviews and support retention strategies.
• Performance Management
• Support leadership in implementing the company’s performance management process, ensuring consistency and follow-through.
• Schedule, attend, and track all 90-day reviews.
• Schedule and track quarterly dialogues and annual performance evaluations.
• Follow up on action items and support managers in maintaining timely and meaningful performance conversations.
• Maintain performance records and assist in preparing review materials.
• HR Administration
• Maintain accurate and confidential employee records (both digital and paper).
• Process employment changes, terminations, promotions, and leaves of absence.
• Manage employee PTO requests and oversee workforce scheduling.
• Prepare and maintain HR reports, metrics, and analytics to support business decisions.
• Manage HR vendor partnerships (i.e., payroll, HRIS).
• Manage HRIS system – managing updates and ensuring adoption of process improvements and data integrity.
• Benefits & Payroll Support
• Serve as a point of contact for employee benefits and assist the Benefits Coordinator in the administration of employee health benefits programs.
• Administer 401(k) and any additional ancillary benefit programs.
• Oversee payroll administration by coordinating with the payroll provider, managing employee changes, pay adjustments, and deductions. Approve timecards for processing and review the weekly Payroll Register to ensure accuracy and compliance.
• Responsible for managing the quarterly employee profit-sharing process, including gathering financial data, preparing reports, ensuring accurate calculations, submitting payment amounts to Payroll & Accounting, and communicating profit-sharing payment dates to team members.
• Compliance & Policy Management
• Ensure compliance with all applicable federal and state employment laws and regulations (FMLA, ADA, FLSA, etc.).
• Maintain and update employee handbook, policies, and procedures to align with best practices.
• Manage the Workers' Compensation program and coordinate mandatory training programs (e.g., harassment prevention, safety).
• Support audit requests and maintain HR documentation in accordance with retention requirements.
• Learning & Development
• Identify opportunities for employee growth and assist in developing training plans and track completion of required or developmental training.
• Provide support for EmeryAllen’s leadership development program.
• Quarterly professional development sessions for internal staff (in conjunction with the Benefits & Outreach Coordinator).
• Individual employee professional development requests.
• Culture & Organizational Support
• Partner with leadership on company meetings, culture initiatives, recognition programs, and internal communications.
• Participate in team meetings and events to promote engagement and connection across the organization.
• Recommend and implement process improvements to enhance HR operations and improve the employee experience.

Requirements

• 3+ years of HR experience, ideally in a small or growing business where you wore many hats
• Solid grasp of HR best practices and employment law
• Sharp judgment and rock-solid discretion with sensitive information
• Excellent organizational skills and comfort juggling shifting priorities
• Proficiency with HRIS systems and Microsoft Office
• Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business, or a related field
• HR certification (PHR, SHRM-CP, or equivalent)
• Strong business acumen, with the ability to develop effective people strategies that support business goals and outcomes
• A natural ability to build trust across every level of an organization
• Experience working in a Mac environment
