Job description

• This position is responsible for providing systematic, objective, and traceable data analysis and decision support for corporate strategic planning, market entry, store network development, major investments, new businesses, enterprise systems, and resource allocation.
• Through research on industry trends, competitors, consumers, regional markets, store operations, and internal company data, identify growth opportunities, strategic risks, and resource-allocation issues; develop business models, scenario analyses, and strategic KPI dashboards to help the CEO, CSO, and management make evidence-based decisions.
• This position is accountable for the accuracy of analytical materials, logical completeness, reasonableness of assumptions, data sources, timely delivery, and quality of decision support. It does not replace the CFO in issuing formal financial conclusions, the Expansion Department in conducting specific site selection, or Merchandising, Marketing, or Operations in owning business operating results.

Responsibilities

• Industry Trends & Competitive Intelligence
• Continuously research industry trends in U.S. chain retail, Asian lifestyle consumption, beauty, snacks, collectibles, household goods, private label, OEM, e-commerce, and supply chain.
• Build a database of major competitor brands and track store count, market footprint, store formats, size, merchandise mix, price bands, brand positioning, promotions, membership programs, and expansion activities.
• Identify industry changes, competitive entry, business-model shifts, and potential substitution risks, and produce periodic analyses.
• Conduct special studies on significant competitive events and assess their impact on TESO stores, merchandise, brand, and expansion strategy.
• All research conclusions must identify data sources, dates, assumptions, and information limitations.
• Consumer, Trade Area & Market Insights
• Partner with Marketing, Operations, Merchandising, and Data teams to study consumer segmentation, purchasing behavior, brand awareness, consumer needs, and repeat-purchase drivers.
• Analyze differences in sales, category mix, average transaction value, and consumer preferences across cities, regions, store types, and customer segments.
• Research demographics, spending power, student, tourism, office, residential, and trade-area characteristics to support market-entry and store-format planning.
• Integrate surveys, interviews, store feedback, membership data, social trends, and external research to develop consumer insights.
• Consumer research is used for strategic and business decisions and does not replace Marketing’s responsibility for brand communications or marketing execution.
• Corporate Strategic Metrics & Business Analysis
• Support the CSO in building the corporate strategic metric tree and management strategic dashboard, translating the company’s 3–5 year strategy into annual and quarterly metrics.
• Integrate strategic data across sales, profit, cash, store openings, merchandise, inventory, supply chain, organization, systems, and new businesses.
• Analyze gaps between targets and actual results and identify trends, structural issues, primary causes, and potential impacts.
• Prepare data, charts, analytical conclusions, and decision items for quarterly strategic business reviews.
• Document data definitions, sources, update dates, and calculation logic; promptly flag inconsistent definitions across departments and drive alignment.
• Do not modify original financial, business, or system data without authorization.
• U.S. Store Network & Market Entry Analysis
• Support development of the U.S. store network plan by analyzing target regions, city clusters, market capacity, management span, and entry sequencing.
• Build city and market scoring models using demographics, customer segments, rent, competition, supply chain, talent, regional management capability, and existing store performance.
• Analyze the suitability of different store formats, sizes, category mixes, and investment models across markets.
• Analyze store density, spacing, potential sales cannibalization, warehouse/distribution radius, and regional economies of scale.
• Conduct 6-, 12-, and 24-month post-opening reviews for new markets and store cohorts, comparing original forecasts with actual results.
• The Expansion Department owns specific site development, field surveys, lease negotiations, and contract execution; this role owns city-, regional-, network-, and investment-model analysis.
• Business Cases, Scenario Analysis & Capital Project Analysis
• Develop business cases for new stores, warehousing, systems, OEM, private label, e-commerce, wholesale, new businesses, and strategic partnership projects.
• Define market size, key assumptions, investment amount, revenue sources, cost structure, gross margin, break-even point, payback period, organizational capabilities, and major risks.
• Build base, upside, cautious, and stress scenarios and analyze how changes in key variables affect project outcomes.
• Partner with the CFO and Finance to validate financial definitions, budgets, cash, and return models; formal financial conclusions are confirmed by the CFO and Finance.
• Compare alternative options for major projects, clearly identifying benefits, risks, resource requirements, and exit conditions for each option.
• After implementation, conduct post-investment or post-project reviews against the original business case to analyze forecast variance and realized value.
• Strategic Growth & New Business Analysis
• Research growth opportunities in new regions, new store formats, e-commerce, omnichannel, wholesale, private label, OEM platforms, and other areas.
• Assess candidate opportunities based on market size, consumer demand, competitive landscape, business model, and company capabilities.
• Support pilot design by defining test scope, target metrics, budget, timeline, owner, and exit criteria.
• Continuously track pilot data to determine whether conditions support scaling, optimization, continued observation, or termination.
• Avoid presenting only favorable data; accurately disclose key risks, invalid assumptions, and causes of project failure.
• Major Decisions & Management Materials Support
• Prepare analytical materials for strategic planning, major projects, market entry, and resource allocation based on the needs of the CEO, CSO, and management.
• Provide industry, competition, growth, store network, and strategic project analysis for Board and investor materials.
• Ensure consistency in data, definitions, and strategic logic used by management, the Board, and investors.
• Translate complex data into clear conclusions, key judgments, option comparisons, and action recommendations.
• Ensure all significant conclusions are traceable to original data, calculation logic, and information sources.
• Do not provide company analytical materials to external institutions, investors, or media without approval.
• Analytical Models, Data Assets & Team Management
• Build and maintain analytical databases covering industry, competition, markets, store networks, consumers, and strategic projects.
• Standardize templates for business cases, city scoring, scenario analysis, strategic dashboards, and post-project evaluations.
• Regularly review model formulas, links, data versions, assumptions, and cited sources to prevent use of incorrect versions.
• Establish review mechanisms for important analytical models; materials for major decisions should generally undergo a second-person review.
• Manager-level roles are responsible for assigning analytical work, professional review, coaching, and analytical-method development; analyst-level roles focus on executing research and models.

Requirements

• Education: Bachelor’s degree or above; majors in strategic management, economics, finance, statistics, business analytics, market research, information systems, or related fields preferred.
• Professional Experience: 2-4 years of experience in corporate strategy, consulting, investment analysis, business analysis, retail analysis, or related fields; demonstrated ability to independently complete complex analyses, business models, and management decision-support materials.
• Industry Experience: Experience in chain retail, consumer goods, multi-store companies, commercial real estate, or new-business analysis preferred.
• Knowledge & Skills: Industry research, consumer analysis, competitive analysis, business modeling, financial fundamentals, scenario analysis, market entry, store-network analysis, and strategic performance analysis.
• Tools: Proficiency in Excel, PowerPoint, and BI tools; SQL, Power BI, Tableau, mapping, or demographic-data analysis skills preferred.
• Core Competencies: Logical analysis, business acumen, data accuracy, independent research, structured communication, critical thinking, confidentiality, and results orientation.
• Language: Strong ability to research source materials, write, and communicate verbally in both English and Chinese.
