Job description

• United Felts (UF) — the largest operating business unit within Vortex Products, a Quad-C Management portfolio company — is seeking a hands-on Controller to own the accuracy, timeliness, and audit-readiness of its financial statements. This role sits at the center of a finance organization being built from the ground up, and will partner directly with the SVP Finance, business unit leadership, and Corporate/sponsor reporting teams to bring GAAP-compliant, standardized accounting discipline to a multi-location manufacturing business. The ideal candidate combines strong technical accrual accounting fundamentals with the operational maturity to build process where little exists today, and the judgment to support a PE-backed reporting cadence without losing sight of the numbers’ underlying accuracy.

Responsibilities

• Monthly Close & GAAP Accounting
• Own the United Felts monthly close process end-to-end, adhering to the corporate close calendar (BD3–BD10 submission cadence, with BD1, BD5, and BD6 internal review checkpoints).
• Prepare and review journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules in accordance with US GAAP.
• Maintain and continuously improve monthly accrual roll-forwards — including Inventory Allowance, Claims/Warranty, Bad Debt Allowance, Commissions, Bonus, Real Estate & Personal Property Taxes, Marketing/Advertising, and Health Insurance Deficit — with each schedule tying to actual vs. budget on documented, defensible assumptions.
• Apply ASC 606 percentage-of-completion revenue recognition accurately across UF’s project- and contract-based revenue streams.
• Own the integrity of P&L-by-location reporting across UF’s manufacturing and wet-out facility network, ensuring revenue, cost, and margin are captured and allocated correctly at the location level.
• PE Sponsor & Adjusted EBITDA Reporting
• Partner with the SVP Finance to produce audit-ready Adjusted EBITDA reporting each month, including full support and documentation for EBITDA addbacks (transition costs, M&A, restructuring, and other one-time normalization items).
• Support a financial statement flow that walks cleanly from Revenue through Net Income, the EBITDA bridge (interest, taxes, depreciation & amortization), and the addback schedule to Adjusted EBITDA — with every step reconciling on its own, without reliance on plug entries.
• Prepare variance analysis (actual vs. budget, year-over-year) at the P&L line-item level, with clear, well-supported commentary on drivers.
• Support sponsor (Quad-C) and board-level reporting packages, ensuring figures are consistent, reconcilable, and delivered on schedule.
• Intercompany & Consolidation
• Own intercompany transaction accounting and elimination entries between United Felts, MaxLiner, and other Vortex Products business units — including intercompany revenue, cost allocations, and balance eliminations.
• Support consolidation of BKP Berolina (EUR-denominated) into the broader UF/Vortex reporting structure, including foreign currency translation.
• Ensure intercompany balances are reconciled and confirmed monthly, with discrepancies investigated and resolved on a timely basis.
• Cost Accounting, Inventory & Standard Costing
• Lead the development and implementation of a standard costing methodology within NetSuite.
• Partner with the Inventory Manager to build and enforce inventory accounting SOPs across accounting and operations.
• Own inventory valuation and reserve adequacy (obsolescence, allowance), with increasing scrutiny and detail given the scale of UF’s inventory base.
• Support Cost of Non-Quality (CoNQ) reporting and reserve modeling as the function matures.
• Process, Controls & Systems
• Design and document Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) across UF’s accounting functions
• Standardize data entry formats and reporting conventions across the business, shifting data and process ownership toward the operating level and reducing single-point dependency on the Controller.
• Serve as the UF finance system owner for NetSuite (primary ERP), supporting the legacy QuickBooks-to-NetSuite transition where applicable, and partnering with Shared Services on T&E systems (Concur, Amex, Vendrix).
• Own UF’s commission tracking and approval process, partnering with sales leadership to build a process where none currently exists.
• Identify and remediate control gaps proactively, bringing a continuous-improvement mindset to a function being built largely from scratch.
• Leadership & Cross-Functional Partnership
• Build, mentor, and manage the United Felts accounting team.
• Partner closely with the President of United Felts and site/location operational leaders to ensure financial data supports operating decisions.
• Collaborate directly with the SVP Finance on FP&A handoffs (budget, forecast, EBITDA bridge, M&A support) and Shared Services handoffs (AP/AR, payroll, treasury).

Requirements

• Required
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA strongly preferred.
• 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 2–3 years in a Controller or Assistant Controller capacity.
• Deep, hands-on knowledge of US GAAP and accrual accounting fundamentals.
• Prior experience in a private equity–owned or sponsor-backed environment, with direct exposure to Adjusted EBITDA reporting, addback methodology, and board/sponsor reporting cadences.
• Demonstrated experience with intercompany accounting and multi-entity consolidation, including elimination entries.
• Manufacturing industry accounting experience, including standard costing, inventory valuation, and cost accounting.
• Strong ERP systems experience; NetSuite experience strongly preferred.
• Proven ability to build accounting processes and SOPs in an environment with limited existing infrastructure.
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate technical accounting into clear, concise commentary for non-finance operating leaders.
• Experience with ASC 606 (percentage-of-completion) revenue recognition.
• Multi-location or multi-site manufacturing accounting experience.
• Experience supporting M&A integration accounting.
• Familiarity with foreign currency consolidation (EUR or other).
• Experience with Concur, Vendrix, or similar T&E platforms.
