• Vision for the Role: The Human Resources Assistant provides essential administrative and clerical support to the Hume Lake HR team, helping ensure that staff at every stage of the employment lifecycle — from application through offboarding — are cared for with excellence, accuracy, and confidentiality. This role supports onboarding, recordkeeping, compliance tracking, and day-to-day HR operations across the Hume Lake site. It is well suited to someone who is detail-oriented, discreet, and energized by serving people behind the scenes in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment.
• Location: Hume Lake, CA

Responsibilities

• Maintains accurate, organized, and confidential personnel files and records in compliance with California recordkeeping requirements.
• Supports new-hire onboarding by preparing offer packets, tracking completion of required paperwork, and scheduling orientation sessions.
• Tracks and documents CalVECHS fingerprinting compliance and other background screening requirements for youth-serving staff.
• Enters and updates applicant and employee data accurately in the HRIS/applicant tracking system (JazzHR).
• Coordinates interview scheduling, candidate communication, and file preparation to support seasonal hiring surges.
• Responds to routine staff questions regarding HR processes and procedures, referring complex or sensitive matters to the HR Coordinator or Generalist.
• Assists with compliance documentation, including AB 506 background-check tracking and mandated-reporter training records.
• Processes offer letters, direct deposit authorizations, and related new-hire documentation.
• Provides general administrative support — filing, scanning, copying, mail, and data entry — for the HR department.
• Helps plan and execute logistics for HR events, trainings, and staff orientation.
• Performs other duties as assigned in support of the HR team and broader camp operations.

Requirements

• Maintains a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and a lifestyle consistent with the organization’s Statement of Faith.
• Agrees to and abides by the organization’s Statement of Faith, Code of Conduct, and lifestyle/community standards.
• Models Christian character, integrity, and discretion in all interactions with staff, particularly when handling sensitive personnel matters.
• Active membership or regular participation in a local Christian church is preferred.
• High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field preferred.
• One or more years of administrative, clerical, or customer service experience; HR-related experience preferred but not required.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook); familiarity with an HRIS or applicant tracking system is a plus.
• Ability to pass a DOJ/FBI Live Scan fingerprint background check and complete mandated child abuse and neglect reporting training, per California AB 506 (Business & Professions Code §18975), as required for staff working on the Hume Lake campus.
• Prior experience in a camp, ministry, nonprofit, or seasonal-workforce environment.
