Job description

• Genesis10 is currently seeking a MS Wintel Systems Administrator for a hybrid position with a Global Financial Institution located in Charlotte, NC, Plano, TX, or Jersey City, NJ. This is a 12+ month contract opportunity.
• This role is for a MS Wintel system administrator with strong communication, operational execution, and troubleshooting skills for an enterprise environment. As part of a dedicated team, you will contribute to actively reducing server vulnerabilities. The server patch management role includes targeting, scheduling, patch installation, governance, and reporting to drive risk reduction, primarily focusing on OS server patches and core ancillary upgrades.

Responsibilities

• Execute and oversee server patching during specified maintenance windows using tools like BladeLogic, custom scripts, and manual updates
• Execute pre-checks to help ensure successful patching events and post-checks to ensure system stability and configuration consistency
• Communicate regularly with application production support teams, platform engineering teams, and level 3 systems operations teams
• Troubleshoot and resolve patch and server failures, escalating where needed
• Develop scripts within BladeLogic to automate operating system patching and updates across multiple systems
• Document and maintain operational procedures
• Develop a close partnership with internal client support and have a working knowledge of their applications

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience with MS Server 2008 – 2019 OS variants and subsequent ability to support dependent technologies (Network, Storage, Clustering, etc)
• 5+ years of experience working with servers in an enterprise environment consisting of 1,500 or more servers
• Previous experience in Windows OS Patching
• Scripting experience in PowerShell or VBS
• Experience with clustering solutions and technologies
• Experience with BMC BladeLogic
• Experience and complete working knowledge of operating system base health/welfare and x86 midrange server hardware troubleshooting
• Experience in diagnosing, researching, and resolving system platform related issues
• Excellent attention to detail to follow documented procedures, with the ability to continually offer suggestions to simplify and improve procedures
• Ability to work weekends
