• There is currently one (1) opening for a n Accountant located at Headquarters (Los Angeles, CA) .

• The Accountant is responsible for independently performing professional accounting work in support of Metropolitan’s financial operations. The position prepares and analyzes accounting transactions, reconciles accounts, maintains financial records, supports financial reporting and audit activities, applies accounting principles, policies, procedures and regulatory requirements to analyze financial data , researches and resolves accounting issues in accordance with accounting standards, internal controls, and Metropolitan’s policies and procedures. The Accountant collaborates with staff across the organization and may provide technical guidance or coordinate accounting assignments.

Responsibilities

• Perform core accounting transactions by preparing cost transfers, journal entries, and various payment requests; ensure accuracy and compliance with accounting standards.
• Reconcile and analyze accounts by researching and identifying discrepancies, resolving issues between subsystems and the general ledger, and validating financial data.
• Prepare, review, and maintain financial documentation and reports, including invoices, drawdown requests, quarterly overhead rate schedules, and components supporting the ACFR.
• Monitor and manage accounts receivable by generating invoices, recording receipts, tracking collections, and ensuring timely processing.
• Support audits and stakeholder inquiries by gathering documentation, preparing responses, coordinating issue resolution, and maintaining records such as property ownership and escrow documents.
• Contribute to cross departmental projects by applying foundational accounting knowledge and supporting project objectives with accurate financial analysis.

• Schedule: 44/36 - Monday through Friday, every other Friday off. Start times are no earlier than 6 am and end times are no later than 6 pm.
• Hybrid: Metropolitan’s current practice in this position is a hybrid work schedule. This typically includes two days a week in person and the other days remote. This is subject to change dependent on organizational needs. In addition, a telework policy is scheduled for negotiations and once completed and implemented, will provide final direction on the hybrid schedule.

Requirements

• Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree in accounting or business administration with an emphasis on accounting from an accredited college or university and two years of relevant experience,
• OR a combination of education and experience equaling six years.
• Relevant/Related Experience is defined as: a combination of work experience within journal entry preparation , bank reconciliations, general ledger account reconciliations, operating e quipment monitoring and recording , maintenance of financial records , invoice processing and experience using an ERP and/or enterprise accounting systems .
