Senior Software Engineer, Continuous Integration at Zoox in Foster City, CA

Job description

• Zoox is developing state-of-the-art autonomous vehicle software for our purpose-built robotaxi. We believe that developing this end-to-end product will not only help us scale our services but will also result in a superior customer experience.
• In this role, you will own the continuous integration systems that every software engineer at Zoox depends on. More than a thousand engineers depend on it every day, running thousands of CI builds every weekday against one of the largest monorepos in the industry. Our goal is to run them fast, reliably, and cost-efficiently as both the codebase and the organization grow. You will work cross-functionally with various software teams as a force multiplier, finding where the build is slow or wasteful and fixing it at the platform level. This is a critical role to squash inefficiencies in our development process, improve the development experience for everyone in the software organization, and ultimately help us scale our autonomous vehicle fleet to more riders and more cities.

Responsibilities

• Own CI performance, cost efficiency, and reliability end-to-end, at thousands of builds a day and growing
• Rethink CI failure analysis, triage, developer support, and incident response with modern AI tools, shifting first-line work off human on-call
• Work cross-functionally to find where integration slows down and fix it at the platform level, and enable teams to make their CI efficient and reliable
• Set the technical bar for how CI is built and operated, and mentor the engineers around you

Requirements

• 5+ years of software engineering and programming experience, including significant experience in platform, infrastructure, or developer tooling
• Hands-on experience operating a distributed CI system at scale, Buildkite preferred; Jenkins, GitHub Actions, or similar
• Working familiarity with a modern build system such as Bazel, and with how caching and remote execution interact with CI
• Solid knowledge of version control systems such as Git
• Self-driven and motivated with a strong work ethic and passion for problem solving
• Cloud compute cost analysis and fleet economics (AWS EC2 instance families, spot, right-sizing)
• Experience dealing with the operational challenges of large monorepos and merge queues
• Experience in "infrastructure as code" tools like Terraform, Helm, and Ansible, and good knowledge of Kubernetes and containers

• $219,000 - $271,000 a year
• There are three major components to compensation for this position: salary, Amazon Restricted Stock Units (RSUs), and Zoox Stock Appreciation Rights. A sign-on bonus may be offered as part of the compensation package. The listed range applies only to the base salary. Compensation will vary based on geographic location and level. Leveling, as well as positioning within a level, is determined by a range of factors, including, but not limited to, a candidate's relevant years of experience, domain knowledge, and interview performance. The salary range listed in this posting is representative of the range of levels Zoox is considering for this position.
