• This infrastructure group sits at the forefront of distributed systems and serves as a vital operational pillar. We own the foundational substrate, pushing the boundaries of what is possible with continuous availability, serverless elasticity, hardened perimeter defense, and state-of-the-art disaster recovery (DR) solutions.
• In this role, you will shape both the architecture and the engineering culture required to power the next generation of AI-driven database capabilities.

Responsibilities

• Manage, mentor, and grow a high-performing team of software engineers, fostering a culture of technical excellence, psychological safety, and innovation.
• Define and execute the long-term technical goal for the Platform for the Agentic era.
• Oversee the end-to-end design, implementation, and operational reliability of major components across the AlloyDB platform stack to support production-grade Agentic workloads.
• Collaborate closely with Product Managers and UX to define product roadmaps and translate customer requirements into scalable engineering solutions.
• Drive technical alignment and successful integrations by collaborating with various engineering teams across the broader Google Cloud organization.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent practical experience.
• 8 years of experience in software development.
• 3 years of experience in a technical leadership role.
• 2 years of experience in a people management or team leadership role.
• Experience in designing, developing, and architecting large-scale distributed systems, managed cloud services, or relational databases.
• Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or a related technical field.
• 3 years of experience working in a complex, matrixed organization.
• Experience working with or building backend infrastructure to support AI applications and complex production Agentic workloads.
• Deep experience in designing, implementing, or operating enterprise-grade database management systems (DBMS), particularly PostgreSQL or similar relational databases.
• Demonstrated experience architecting highly available, secure, and resilient systems, including advanced disaster recovery (DR), cross-region replication, or serverless platforms.

Benefits

• Individual pay is determined by factors including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
• US: $207000 - $300000 (USD) + 20% bonus target + equity + benefits
