Job description

• Ag Workers Mutual Auto Insurance is seeking an experienced and hands-on Treasurer to join our executive leadership team. This is a key leadership position for a financial executive who wants to have a meaningful impact on the strategy, performance, and continued growth of a property and casualty insurance company.
• Reporting directly to the President/CEO and working closely with the Board of Directors, the Treasurer will provide strategic financial leadership while maintaining responsibility for the company's accounting, financial reporting, treasury, capital management, regulatory reporting, and financial controls.
• The ideal candidate combines strong insurance industry financial expertise with a practical, collaborative leadership style. This individual will be comfortable operating at both the strategic and operational levels, from advising the Board on capital and financial performance to developing and mentoring the accounting and finance team.

Responsibilities

• Strategic Financial Leadership
• Serve as a trusted strategic advisor to the President/CEO, executive leadership team, and Board of Directors on financial performance, capital management, growth initiatives, and risk.
• Develop and execute financial strategies that support the company's business plan, profitability objectives, and long-term financial strength.
• Lead annual business planning, budgeting, forecasting, and financial performance management.
• Evaluate growth opportunities, partnerships, new initiatives, and operational investments from a financial and strategic perspective.
• Provide clear financial analysis and recommendations to support executive and Board-level decision-making.
• Accounting & Financial Management
• Direct all accounting and financial reporting activities, ensuring accurate and timely reporting and compliance with applicable statutory accounting requirements.
• Oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes.
• Develop and deliver meaningful management reporting that provides insight into company performance.
• Monitor key financial and operating indicators, including underwriting results, investment performance, expenses, and profitability.
• Maintain strong financial controls, governance practices, and internal control processes.
• Treasury & Capital Management
• Serve as Treasurer, with responsibility for cash management, liquidity planning, banking relationships, and investment activities.
• Monitor capital adequacy, surplus levels, liquidity, and overall financial strength.
• Develop capital and liquidity strategies that support the company's growth objectives and risk appetite.
• Work with external investment managers and advisors to monitor portfolio performance and compliance with investment policies.
• Insurance & Regulatory Financial Oversight
• Oversee preparation and filing of statutory financial statements, annual statements, and required financial regulatory filings.
• Partner closely with actuarial, underwriting, claims, and reinsurance teams to evaluate profitability, reserves, and the financial impact of business decisions.
• Support enterprise risk management activities and Own Risk and Solvency Assessment (ORSA) processes, as applicable.
• Monitor insurance industry trends, regulatory developments, competitive conditions, and emerging financial risks.
• Serve as the company's primary financial liaison with state insurance regulators, external auditors, tax advisors, banking partners, and other financial stakeholders.
• Prepare and present financial information, analysis, and recommendations to the Board of Directors and applicable Board committees.
• Team Leadership
• Lead, develop, coach, and mentor the accounting and finance team.
• Establish clear goals, priorities, and accountability across the department.
• Recruit, train, and develop team members as needed.
• Conduct employee performance evaluations and make recommendations regarding development, promotion, retention, and other personnel matters.
• Build a culture of accuracy, accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

• What We're Looking For
• The successful candidate will be an experienced insurance finance professional with Statutory Accounting experience, who brings strong technical expertise along with sound business judgment and executive leadership capabilities.
• Active CPA license required
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
• 10+ years of relevant accounting or finance experience
• 5 to 7+ years of experience within the insurance industry
• Strong understanding of Statutory Accounting Principles (SAP)
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and strong financial analytical skills
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 applications and Microsoft operating environments
• Master's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related discipline
• Previous experience in a CFO, Controller, Treasurer, or senior financial leadership role within the insurance industry
• Experience working directly with insurance regulators, external auditors, Boards of Directors, and investment advisors
