Job description

• The Product Manager, Commercial Auto, Underwriting Strategy & Analytics will help shape, scale and profitably grow our Commercial Auto product and advance our Personal Lines underwriting strategy. You will manage product initiatives that support the development, performance and profitability of our Commercial Auto insurance product. You will also develop, implement and refine underwriting initiatives that optimize performance, manage risk, and support the profitable growth of our Personal Auto, Motorcycle, and Umbrella products.
• The Product Manager will collaborate with cross-functional teams including Underwriting, Actuarial, Product Management, Marketing, Claims, Legal and IT to develop and execute initiatives that deliver sustained profitable growth. Key responsibilities include development and refinement of product offerings and underwriting capabilities, with a focus on data-driven problem solving and an understanding of the competitive and regulatory environment.

Responsibilities

• Manage Commercial Auto product initiatives across the product lifecycle, from analysis and recommendation through implementation and monitoring.
• Contribute to the development of a multiyear underwriting strategy and lead initiatives that balance risk management, customer experience, and growth objectives.
• Partner with Underwriting Operations and Product Management to identify and implement improvements that support profitable growth and modernize our underwriting approach.
• Develop and execute components of business plans to achieve profit and growth objectives.
• Conduct market research and competitor analysis to identify opportunities and gaps.
• Develop product enhancements, pricing strategies, and coverage options that align with customer needs and regulatory requirements.
• Collaborate with Underwriting to refine our Commercial Auto appetite, monitor underwriting performance, and recommend and implement corrective actions as needed.
• Collaborate with Underwriting and Actuarial teams to assess pricing adequacy and incorporate data insights and predictive models into product and underwriting decision-making.
• Monitor product performance metrics, making data-driven decisions to address trends, gaps, and opportunities.
• Lead or support the implementation and post-implementation monitoring of underwriting technology tools, capabilities, and automation initiatives.
• Coordinate state-specific regulatory filings and work with Legal and Compliance to support compliance with applicable requirements. Monitor the competitive, legislative, and regulatory environments to identify emerging issues and recommend responses.
• Evaluate new and existing third-party data sources for Commercial & Personal Auto underwriting, recommending changes based on data quality, predictive value, cost, and implementation requirements.
• Partner with Advanced Analytics to develop and implement predictive capabilities that improve risk selection, identify potential misrepresentation, and support more targeted underwriting.
• Review and refine underwriting rules across Commercial & Personal Auto, measuring their impact on profitability, referral volume, and customer and agent experience.
• Independently manage complex product and underwriting projects, coordinate cross-functional implementation, and present findings and recommendations to management

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Business, Insurance, Finance, or other quantitative field of study; an advanced degree or insurance designation (e.g. CPCU) is a plus.
• 6+ years of experience in P&C insurance product management, underwriting strategy, or a related analytical role.
• Experience with the broader Small Commercial product suite, including Business Owners Policies (BOP), General Liability (GL), and Commercial Package Policies (CPP), is beneficial.
• Strong understanding of insurance pricing and underwriting principles, with experience supporting product changes and familiarity with rate/form filing processes and regulatory requirements.
• Demonstrated ability to analyze data and translate findings into actionable decisions.
• Confidence taking ownership of challenging business issues, making decisions with limited or incomplete data and seeing issues through to resolution.
• Strong analytical thinking, communication, project management, and stakeholder collaboration skills.
• Demonstrated ability to influence business partners, build alignment, and execute initiatives with a high degree of ownership and accountability.
• Ability to communicate findings and recommendations clearly to management and cross-functional business partners.

• The pay range for this position is $132K - $165K annually. Actual compensation will vary based on multiple factors, including employee knowledge and experience, role scope, business needs, geographical location, and internal equity.​
