Founding Brand Designer at Basis in New York Office

• Basis is looking for a founding brand designer to own how our brand shows up in the world. You'll turn an ambitious company and category narrative into a visual identity that people recognize, trust, and remember.
• Basis is positioned to become one of the leading agent labs, so the brand carries two loads: a customer brand and a technical brand. Both have a good baseline. Neither has been pushed as far as it should go. The customer brand also has to carry multiple go-to-market motions, each with a different buyer and different needs, so range matters as much as consistency. This is a wide open brief.
• We're building agents that change how accounting work gets done. The brand needs to make that future feel clear, credible, and worth joining. You'll define the visual language that helps Basis stand apart from a crowded AI market without falling back on familiar AI tropes.
• You'll shape the brand across our website, launches, campaigns, customer stories, visual assets, and recruiting. You'll move from concept to final file and make every touchpoint feel like one brand.
• This is not a production-only role. You'll set the creative direction, challenge weak ideas, and bring a point of view on what modern B2B design should become. You'll also stay close to the work: design the page, build the system, ship the campaign.
• You'll build the operating system for design at Basis: a flexible brand system, clear standards, reusable templates, and AI-enabled workflows that raise creative output without lowering the bar. You'll know where consistency creates leverage and where the work should break the pattern.
• You'll partner closely with the Head of Marketing, PMM, Content, Demand Generation, Customer Marketing, Product, Sales, and Recruiting. As the company grows, you'll guide agencies, freelancers, and future designers, and protect the quality and coherence of the brand.
• This is a high-ownership role for a designer who wants to build a consequential brand from the ground up. You'll need exceptional taste, strong business judgment, and the ability to turn ambiguity into a clear creative direction.

Requirements

• 5-8 years in brand design, visual design, or creative direction, ideally at a high-growth software, AI, fintech, or technical product company
• A portfolio of complete brand systems, not a collection of individual assets, that turned complex products and abstract ideas into distinctive creative concepts
• Exceptional taste in typography, composition, color, hierarchy, image direction, and visual storytelling
• Strong digital design skills and experience shipping responsive web experiences in close partnership with developers
• Experience building design systems, templates, standards, and workflows that flex across different buyers and motions without fragmenting into separate brands
• Strong creative judgment and the confidence to explain the idea, defend the decision, take feedback, and improve the work
• Technical curiosity and the ability to learn a complex product, buyer, and market quickly
• Category-Defining Brand Work: A visual identity that helped a company claim a distinct place in the market, not just look more polished
• Website Depth: Experience shaping a B2B website from narrative and information hierarchy through interaction and final visual design
• Campaign Concepts: Integrated ideas that traveled across digital, editorial, social, events, and sales surfaces without losing their force
• Editorial Taste: Reports, customer stories, and thought leadership that made complex material feel clear, useful, and worth reading
• System That Compounds: Every component, template, and workflow you ship makes the next project faster and stronger
• AI-Native Creative Practice: A thoughtful approach to using AI for exploration, production, and iteration without making the work feel generic
