Director, Fiscal Operations at Met Council in New York, NY

Job description

• Reporting in partnership with the CFO, Controller, and Director of Budgets and Grants Management, the Director of Fiscal Operations provides coordination and project management across the organization's fiscal functions. This role ensures that grant accounting, grants management, contracts, and related fiscal activities are integrated, executed accurately, and completed in a timely manner.
• This position will support the various functions of the Fiscal Grants Department, helping to ensure that deadlines, deliverables, and reporting requirements are met. The Director will leverage strong nonprofit finance experience and an understanding of complex funding environments while focusing on coordination, oversight, process improvement, and operational execution. This role is intended to support and complement the leadership of the CFO, Controller, and the Director of Budgets and Grants Management by following their direction and priorities to help advance departmental goals.

Responsibilities

• Develop, maintain, and coordinate the various functions within the Fiscal Department.
• Monitor and ensure compliance with critical deadlines, identify potential delays or obstacles, and work with responsible staff and departments to ensure timely completion.
• Assist with processes for tracking fiscal projects, outstanding grant reporting and registrations, approvals, and submissions.
• Assist the Controller and Director of Budgets and Grants Management in maintaining effective fiscal policies, procedures, internal controls, and operational processes.
• Streamline Housing Department processes.
• Assist with capital grant monitoring.
• Serve as the primary liaison between Housing Operations and Fiscal Operations with respect to intercompany accounts.
• Assist the Director of Budgets and Grants Management in maintaining the grants tracker and managing the cadence of grant reporting deadlines.
• Assist with the preparation of special financial grant reports and budget projections for Met Council.
• Facilitate the transition to Sage Intacct accounting software.
• Additional responsibilities as required.

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field required.
• Minimum of eight years of progressively responsible experience in finance, accounting, grants management, or a related field.
• Demonstrated experience working within a nonprofit organization with multiple funding sources, including government contracts, grants, private foundations, and both restricted and unrestricted funding.
• Demonstrated project management experience, including the ability to manage multiple concurrent initiatives, establish timelines, coordinate stakeholders, monitor deliverables, and drive projects to completion.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively across departments and communicate with individuals at all levels of an organization.
• Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage competing priorities and complex deadlines.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
