Responsibilities

• Responsibilities will vary by organization, community, and position and may include:
• Leading accounting, finance, revenue cycle, billing, coding, reimbursement, or patient financial services functions
• Supporting accurate and timely financial reporting
• Managing month-end and year-end close processes
• Developing budgets, forecasts, financial models, and performance reports
• Strengthening billing, collections, cash flow, reimbursement, and denial-management performance
• Monitoring key revenue cycle metrics and identifying opportunities for improvement
• Supporting accurate patient registration, eligibility verification, coding, charge capture, claims submission, and payment posting
• Overseeing patient accounts, financial counseling, collection processes, and assistance programs
• Ensuring compliance with payer, regulatory, accounting, grant, and documentation requirements
• Preparing for financial, coding, billing, reimbursement, or compliance audits
• Developing policies, procedures, workflows, reporting standards, and internal controls
• Training, mentoring, and supporting finance and revenue cycle employees
• Collaborating with clinical, operational, information technology, health information management, compliance, and executive leaders
• Helping employees understand how documentation and departmental workflows affect reimbursement and organizational sustainability
• Supporting system implementations, process improvements, departmental restructuring, or centralized service models
• Managing financial or revenue cycle functions across multiple facilities, clinics, reservations, or communities
• Supporting reimbursement involving Medicare, Medicaid, commercial insurance, government programs, grants, and patient-pay accounts
• Evaluating the financial impact of medical travel, workforce shortages, temporary staffing, housing, weather, supply costs, and regional operations
• Helping ensure essential healthcare services remain financially sustainable and available closer to home

Requirements

• Progressive experience in healthcare finance, accounting, revenue cycle, billing, coding, reimbursement, or patient financial services
• Previous leadership experience as a director, manager, controller, supervisor, or comparable leader
• Knowledge of healthcare reimbursement, payer requirements, billing practices, accounting standards, and financial operations
• Experience with Medicare, Medicaid, commercial insurance, government programs, grants, and patient-pay accounts
• An understanding of hospital, clinic, long-term care, or healthcare-system workflows
• Experience analyzing financial or revenue cycle performance and communicating findings clearly to leadership
• Experience improving collections, denials, coding accuracy, charge capture, reimbursement, cash flow, or accounts receivable performance
• Strong organizational, analytical, problem-solving, communication, and team-development skills
• The ability to collaborate across clinical, operational, financial, technical, executive, tribal, and community teams
• Experience with Critical Access Hospitals, Rural Health Clinics, FQHCs, public hospital districts, tribal healthcare organizations, regional health systems, long-term care providers, or community healthcare organizations
• Experience supporting multi-site organizations or services spread across significant geographic distances may be valuable
• Experience with grants, federal funding, rural reimbursement, tribal healthcare finance, or public-sector finance may be preferred for some opportunities
• Relevant education or professional credentials based on the position
• A collaborative, transparent, practical, and relationship-focused leadership style
• Some opportunities may prefer credentials such as CPA, CHFP, CRCR, CPC, CCS, RHIA, RHIT, or another finance, coding, revenue cycle, reimbursement, or health information certification.
