Job description

• The SPR/Utilities Operations Apprentice is a year-long program that includes a comprehensive training program at SPR and the Allen Water Treatment Plant. Apprentices will spend 6 months at SPR and 6 months with utilities.

Responsibilities

• Apprentices are expected to arrive for their shift ready to learn and communicate any schedule conflicts with their assigned supervisor in advance when possible. Apprentices will learn under the mentorship of licensed operators and will help keep track of the progress of their learning objectives as defined in the training calendar and apprenticeship program.

• Technical Expertise – Plant Operations: Basic knowledge of principles of the Water Treatment Plant Operations discipline.

• Understands chemical and mechanical treatment technologies, their principles of operation and application in specific tasks or processes.
• Possesses troubleshooting competency to evaluate, diagnose and repair operational issues throughout the plant site.

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Clean Driving Record
• By the 6-month mark, apprentices are required to achieve either a D Water or D Wastewater license in order to continue their apprenticeship.
• *An equivalent combination of education, training and relevant job experience may be substituted.
• In addition to above requirements: new hires must, as a condition of employment, pass the following pre-offer and post-offer/hire processes: in-person interviews, reference checks, and background checks, which may include local police check, DMV check, drug screen, and fingerprint checks through CBI/FBI.
