Job description

• We are seeking an experienced Controller to lead Maverick's accounting and financial operations, ensuring accurate financial reporting, strong internal controls, effective cash management, and compliance with applicable commercial and government-contract requirements. This role will partner closely with executive leadership and program management to provide financial visibility into company performance, program costs, cash requirements, and growth initiatives.
• The ideal candidate combines strong technical accounting and controllership experience with the ability to operate hands-on in a fast-paced startup environment. Experience with aerospace, defense, government contracting, FAR/DFARS, DCAA requirements, or other regulated industries is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

• Manage and oversee all daily accounting operations including accounts payable/receivable, payroll, general ledger, and bank reconciliations in accordance with GAAP
• Prepare timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and reports
• Develop and maintain annual budget, forecasts, and cash-flow projections
• Develop and maintain internal control policies and procedures to ensure compliance and mitigate financial risks.
• Coordinate and lead the annual budgeting and forecasting process in collaboration with department heads.
• Liaise with external auditors, tax advisors, and regulatory agencies to facilitate audits and ensure compliance.
• Analyze financial data to identify trends, variances, and opportunities for cost savings and operational improvements.
• Support strategic initiatives by providing financial insights and recommendations to senior management.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field
• Prior experience in a controller or senior accounting role
• Minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting experience, including supervisory responsibility
• Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, and regulatory compliance requirements
• Proficiency with accounting software and Microsoft Excel
• Master's degree in accounting, finance, or business administration
• Experience with ERP systems such as Unanet, SAP, Oracle, or NetSuite
• Familiarity with tax regulations and experience managing tax filings
• Strong analytical skills with experience in financial modeling and forecasting
• Experience working in the defense industry with FARs and DFARs

• The annual base salary for this position is $133,640 - $173,680. Please note that the salary information is a general guideline only.
