Job description
- Application
- 1Password is growing. We’ve surpassed $400M in ARR and we’re continuing to accelerate, earning a spot on the Forbes Cloud 100 for four years in a row and teaming up with iconic partners like Oracle Red Bull Racing.
- We’re seeking a Senior Communications Manager to strengthen 1Password’s position as a trusted authority for identities, credentials, and access across modern organizations, including the people and agents they rely on.
- This role will shape clear, credible narratives about identity and access management, unified access, and the role of AI in the future of security. Through media relations, contributed content, events, speaking engagements, and rapid response, this person will build trust with developer, business, and security audiences.
- The ideal candidate brings technical fluency, a strong understanding of the security market, and the ability to translate complex ideas into compelling communications that advance 1Password’s technical credibility and strategic ambition.
- This role reports to the Director of Communications.
- On the Marketing team, we’re growing our AI capability together and redesigning how work gets done. We’ve built agents to improve workflows focused on competitive intelligence, content creation, and campaign planning, helping us stay sharp, reduce context-switching, and surface the right information at the right time. AI helps us coordinate, execute, and uncover insights faster so we can spend more time on what’s most important: performance, judgement, and driving the future of 1Password.
- This is a remote opportunity within Canada and the US.
Responsibilities
- Media and executive communications: Build media strategies, maintain trusted journalist relationships, support executive and technical spokespeople, and develop opportunities that strengthen 1Password’s position in the market.
- Content and narrative development: Lead press releases, contributed articles, blog posts, executive communications, media materials, and other content that makes complex topics in identity, access, AI, and developer security clear and relevant.
- Event communications: Develop media and speaking strategies for major industry events, such as RSA Conference, Black Hat, and Infosecurity Europe. Coordinate briefings and interviews, support speaker preparation, and provide on-site communications support.
- Rapid response: Monitor developments in cybersecurity, identity, AI, and technology. Develop response plans, coordinate internal input, and help 1Password contribute a clear, credible perspective to important industry conversations.
- Measurement and improvement: Set goals for communications programs, monitor coverage, message adoption, and audience engagement, and use those insights to refine strategy and prioritize future work.
Requirements
- 6+ years of experience in communications, PR, or marketing, in B2B tech; cybersecurity, AI, or developer-focused experience strongly preferred
- Enterprise security expertise: Understands cybersecurity, identity and access management, credential security, AI agents, and developer workflows. Can explain how authentication, authorization, credential use, and accountability must evolve as organizations adopt new technologies.
- Media and thought leadership experience: Has established relationships with security, technology, business, and developer media. Can partner with executive and technical spokespeople to develop distinctive points of view and turn them into compelling stories, bylines, briefings, and speaking opportunities.
- Strategic storytelling and writing skills: Develops communications strategies tied to business priorities and translates complex topics into clear, credible content for technical and business audiences.
- Cross-functional collaboration: Works effectively with marketing, product, engineering, security, legal, sales, executive teams, and external agency partners to align messaging and deliver integrated programs.
- Ownership, adaptability, and prioritization: Drives work forward without waiting for perfect clarity, brings structure to ambiguity, and balances planned work with rapid-response needs. Makes sound decisions, communicates tradeoffs, and follows through.
