Cost Engineer/APM - Gas Operations at Quanta in US-TX-Grand Prairie

Job description

• Northstar Energy Solutions , a Quanta Services company, is seeking a Cost Engineer/APM – Gas Operations to support the planning, coordination, and execution of gas distribution construction and maintenance projects. This role works closely with Project Managers, Superintendents, and field leadership to ensure projects are delivered safely, on schedule, and within budget. Candidates with experience in gas distribution or utility construction are strongly preferred.
• Location: Grand Prairie, TX (with travel to active gas distribution project sites)
• Schedule: Monday–Friday, with travel and extended hours as project schedules require

Responsibilities

• Cost Control & Budgeting
• Track project costs against budget across labor, material, equipment, and subcontractor spend; flag variances and cost risks to Project Managers.
• Support cost forecasting and estimate-vs-actual analysis to keep projects within planned budget.
• Assist with change order cost impact review, including scope, quantity, and pricing changes.
• Support progress billing, invoice review/reconciliation, and coordination of AP/AR documentation with accounting and administrative staff.
• Project Scheduling & Coordination
• Assist with development and maintenance of detailed project schedules for gas distribution projects.
• Coordinate with subcontractors, vendors, and internal teams during project mobilization and execution.
• Estimating & Documentation
• Support estimators with take-offs, submittals, and proposal preparation.
• Draft, track, and submit Requests for Information (RFIs); participate in client and internal project meetings.
• Project Tracking & Reporting
• Maintain logs of project updates, resource delays, and permitting or Right-of-Way progress.
• Prepare regular status reports for leadership and clients highlighting cost, schedule risks, barriers, and progress.
• Team & Administrative Support
• Provide direct support to Project Managers and Superintendents to ensure project workflows remain on track.
• Coordinate with administrative staff to complete timesheets, expense reports, invoices, and procurement documentation.
• Equipment & Materials Management
• Track project equipment (rentals, breakdowns, relocations) and maintain accurate logs.
• Support procurement and delivery of construction consumables and materials to field sites.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Finance, or a related field, preferred.
• 0–3 years of experience in construction project coordination or cost control, preferably in gas distribution or utility construction.
• Working knowledge of cost tracking, budget variance analysis, or estimate-vs-actual reporting.
• General knowledge of gas distribution job site processes, including permitting, Right-of-Way, and crew logistics.
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a dynamic field and office environment.
• Strong computer proficiency, with experience in scheduling software and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel proficiency for cost tracking a plus).
• Understanding of billing processes, Accounts Payable (AP), and Accounts Receivable (AR).
• Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to travel to project sites, as needed.
