• We are looking for an experienced and technically strong Academy Engineer who can translate complex Cognite technology and real-world implementation practices into engaging, practical, and scalable learning experiences.
• You will work closely with Product, Engineering, Professional Services, Customer Success, and other subject matter experts to understand what customers and partners need to know, identify learning gaps, and turn that knowledge into high-quality training courses, hands-on exercises, labs, demonstrations, and instructor-led programs.
• This is a highly collaborative role with significant ownership. You will not simply be handed a curriculum to deliver. You will help shape what we teach, how we teach it, and how learners demonstrate their ability to apply it.
• The ideal candidate combines the mindset of a data engineer/data scientist, technical consultant, and educator. You should be comfortable working hands-on with technology, presenting to a room of technical professionals, creating learning content, and continuously learning new products and technologies.

Responsibilities

• Develop deep expertise in Cognite Data Fusion® and the broader Cognite product portfolio relevant to Academy training.
• Serve as a technical subject matter expert within the Academy team, helping ensure that training content reflects current product capabilities, implementation practices, and industry use cases.
• Partner closely with Product Managers, Engineers, Professional Services, Solutions Architects, and other internal SMEs to understand product functionality, upcoming capabilities, and real-world implementation requirements.
• Identify knowledge and skills gaps across customers, partners, and internal teams and translate these gaps into actionable learning requirements.
• Contribute to the Academy curriculum roadmap by recommending new courses, learning paths, hands-on labs, and advanced technical training.
• Continuously validate and refresh existing content as Cognite products, technologies, and best practices evolve.
• Design and develop high-quality technical training for audiences ranging from beginners to experienced data engineers, data scientists, solution architects, and implementation professionals.

• Design hands-on exercises that allow learners to practice skills in realistic scenarios rather than simply consume information.
• Contribute to standardized Academy content development processes, templates, quality standards, and design systems.
• Use modern learning and content-authoring technologies to create engaging digital learning experiences.
• Develop video-based learning, demonstrations, animations, interactive activities, and other digital learning assets using tools such as Synthesia, Articulate Rise, and other Academy technologies.
• Experiment with AI-powered content development tools and emerging learning technologies to improve the speed, quality, and scalability of Academy content development.
• Work with the Academy team to continuously improve the learner experience across the LMS and other learning platforms.
• Ensure that digital learning content is technically accurate, visually engaging, accessible, and aligned with Academy standards.
• Deliver engaging instructor-led training to customers, partners, and internal employees through virtual and in-person formats.
• Facilitate training programs ranging from foundational courses such as CDF Fundamentals to advanced technical programs such as multi-day CDF Delivery Bootcamps.
• Adapt delivery style and depth based on the audience's technical background, role, industry, and learning objectives.
• Facilitate technical discussions, demonstrations, exercises, workshops, and troubleshooting sessions.
• Create a learning environment where participants feel comfortable asking questions and applying concepts hands-on.
• Collect and analyze learner feedback and use it to continuously improve course content and delivery.
• Travel internationally or within the region for customer, partner, and internal training events, expected to be approximately up to 25% of the time.
• Develop training that directly supports successful Cognite implementations and adoption.
• Understand the different technical personas within the Cognite ecosystem, including data engineers, data scientists, solution architects, developers, and other implementation professionals.
• Ensure that training prepares learners not only to understand Cognite products, but to apply them successfully in real-world industrial environments.
• Partner with Professional Services and Customer Success teams to identify recurring customer and partner capability gaps that can be addressed through scalable Academy programs.
• Contribute to certification and skills-based learning programs where appropriate.
• Work collaboratively across Academy, Product, Engineering, Professional Services, Customer Success, and other functions to ensure alignment between product development and learning content.
• Actively participate in Academy content planning, reviews, and quality assurance activities.
• Bring feedback from customers and training participants back into the product and Academy organizations.
• Continuously evaluate what is working and identify opportunities to improve the effectiveness, scalability, and efficiency of Academy learning programs.
• Stay current with emerging technologies in AI, data engineering, DataOps, and industrial data platforms and assess their relevance to Cognite's learning portfolio.

Requirements

• Technical Experience
• Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
• 2+ years of professional experience in a technical role such as Data Engineer, Data Scientist, Software Engineer, Solutions Architect, or Technical Consultant.
• Strong hands-on experience with Python and SQL.
• Experience working with data platforms, DataOps technologies, cloud platforms, or industrial data environments.
• Experience with Cognite Data Fusion® is highly desirable. Experience with similar industrial data platforms or DataOps environments will also be considered.
• Experience with Microsoft Azure and Azure Active Directory.
• Strong understanding of data engineering, data modeling, APIs, and cloud-based data platforms.
• Ability and enthusiasm to quickly learn new technologies and become a credible technical SME.
• Training & Communication Experience
• Experience delivering technical training, workshops, bootcamps, demonstrations, or technical presentations to professional audiences.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Demonstrated ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly to audiences with different levels of technical expertise.
• Experience creating technical learning content, documentation, tutorials, labs, or other educational materials.
• Understanding of instructional design principles and adult learning methodologies.
• Experience with learning management systems and digital authoring tools is highly desirable.
• Familiarity with tools such as Skilljar, Articulate Rise, Articulate Storyline, Synthesia, or similar platforms is a plus.
