Job description
- Marie Watt Studio is seeking a highly organized, self-motivated operations expert to help manage HR, benefits, records, financial tracking and light IT management. This person needs to be discreet, detail-oriented and skilled at record-keeping, while also being flexible and able to respond quickly to new requests. As a small business of 6-8 employees we rely on a team of creative thinkers who balance independent excellence with trust in collaboration to create incredible artworks in a variety of mediums with outsized impact and quality.
Responsibilities
- Track and maintain HR policies, ensuring legal compliance and alignment with the Studio’s ethical principals
- Maintain staff employment records
- Manage insurance, IRA, FSA and other benefits
- Manage PTO tracking
- Work with Studio Manager to lead on-boarding and off-boarding of new, temporary, and casual employees.
- Financial data entry and tracking, including invoicing and tracking payments, and reconciling travel expenses.
- Liaising with Bookkeeper on bills/financial questions and tracking
- Approving payroll hours
- IT management; managing computer inventory and equipment, managing Google Workspace, troubleshooting Wifi, and other software issues that arise.
Requirements
- Experience and Education
- At least 2 years experience in an administrative or operations role.
- Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Competencies
- Excellent discretion and experience with management of confidential materials
- Strong interpersonal communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Organized and meticulous, with a strong attention to detail.
- Strong computer skills and comfort learning and adapting to new technology programs and processes. Commonly used platforms include Bamboo HR, Google Workspace, Zoom, Asana, iCloud, and Apple hardware.
- An arts/art history background, interest in contemporary art, and/or demonstrated experience or interest in working with Indigenous communities is encouraged.

About Marie Watt Studio
Marie Watt (she/her) is a member of the Turtle Clan of the Seneca Nation whose work draws on images and ideas from Haudenosaunee (Iroquois) protofeminism and Indigenous teachings. Her practice is interdisciplinary, incorporating printmaking, painting, textiles, and sculpture. Watt conducts both solo and collaborative projects, but in all of them she explores how history, community, and storytelling intersect.
