Job description
- Our two-year, generalist Analyst Program prepares individuals for a rewarding career in venture capital, while making significant contributions to our team.
- The program includes intensive training taught by CI Venture Team Members and evolves into comprehensive on-the-job experience as Analysts assist in all facets of the venture capital continuum. During the program, you will have the chance to work on deal structure, financial analysis and modeling, the due diligence process, presentations, client communications and more. Instead of being assigned to a single equity fund, Analysts work across multiple funds. They take on additional responsibilities based on their individual skill sets; an exceptional second-year Analyst can receive work that corresponds to the Associate level.
Responsibilities
- All Venture Team members play a pivotal role as part of the investment due diligence process and post-investment, as part of scaling the portfolio company.
- An Analyst helps execute our investment strategy by researching macro venture capital trends and deep-dive analysis in specific industries. They also participate in all phases of the investment process including due diligence, meetings with management, focused company and industry research, financial modeling, writing investment recommendations, and supporting CI portfolio companies as board observers.
- Candidates should be self-starting, curious, flexible and have knowledge of financial statements, business plans and other financial and legal documents.
- Representing CI at industry events, source investment prospects, develop relationships with potential co-investors.
- Screening and analysis of potential investments.
- Conducting due diligence and competitive analysis.
- Financial modeling and valuation analysis, collaborating with and supporting other members of the CI Venture team.
- Preparing reports and proposals regarding potential investments and portfolio companies.
- Drafting term sheets.
- Reviewing legal documents related to financings and other matters.
- Presenting investments for approval to CI advisory committees and committees of the CI Board of Directors.
- Assisting in identifying strategic, marketing and partnering opportunities for portfolio companies.
- Participate in meetings and calls related to due diligence, industry research, and investment negotiations.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in finance or the equivalent.
- Internship experience in market research, management consulting, venture capital or investment management.
- Entrepreneurial, ambitious, curious, self-starting. High energy, high effort, positive attitude - and fun to be around on a long day.
- Demonstrated excellence in multiple pursuits and love for hard work essential.
- Comfortable with autonomy and ambiguity, and good at solving problems without waiting to be handed a process.
- Willing to move between routine detail work and high-judgment thinking without losing quality in either.
- The right mix of self-confidence and humility - a consummate teammate with a history of making teams perform at a higher level.
