• Engineers at Electric Boat work collaboratively across departments and with our customer to develop innovative solutions for the United States Navy’s nuclear submarines. As an Intern , you'll be exposed to various engineering activities with the support of our senior staff. This program grants our trainees the opportunity to develop valuable skills and dive into cutting-edge projects such as leading the Columbia Class design and enhancing Virginia Class submarines. Every intern will be exposed to a wealth of knowledge in order to excel in the engineering domain.
• This program requires a minimum commitment of 8 weeks during the Summer 2027 Season.

Responsibilities

• The Information Technology Group is seeking highly motivated computer engineering interns to support various subgroups of IT within the organization including:
• Software engineering group (SEG) - The group's objective is to develop and deploy computer-aided automation tools to maximize the net savings to the company. The group is predominantly working on the development of custom automation within EB's newest CAD and PLM tool (this consists of developing automated CAD views, labels and dimensions, design and manufacturing interfaces, rules based automations, etc).
• IT Infrastructure group - supports the inner workings of Electric Boat data and business systems(Networks/Servers/Desktop/Storage) in a fast paced defense environment.
• Cyber Security and compliance - will help monitor all systems for vulnerabilities and either repair the vulnerabilities or develop remediation plans for them when necessary. They will support the other system administrators with hardware and software certifications.
• Systems engineering - working with business customers to gather and document requirements for changes to EB business systems. Supporting areas include engineering, operations, warehousing and planning.
• Project management office – join the group helping manage the various IT projects providing new tools and capabilities with both software and hardware solutions.
• Finance and procurement team – this critical group is helping plan and procure the software and hardware for new projects as well as existing operations and maintenance
• User production support – immerse yourself in user support by becoming a subject matter expert in the design and engineering tools while support the core customers
• Information Technology Summer Interns may be responsible for the following tasks:
• Requirement analysis and design for software application.
• Development of software applications (typically Java applications).
• Testing and maintenance of various software applications.
• Investigation of advanced IT and software development technology

Requirements

• Must be 18 years of age or older.
• US citizenship is required.
• Pursuing a Bachelor or Masters of Science in IT, Computer Science or Engineering
• Must be able to successfully pass a medically supervised drug screen and background check.
• Must be enrolled full-time at a college or university
• At minimum students must have completed their Freshman year prior to the start of the internship.
• Must be available to work 40 hours per week for a minimum eight (8) consecutive weeks between May 2027 to September 2027.
• Selected candidates will be responsible for establishing housing and reliable transportation for the duration of their intern assignment.

• For the cyber security and compliance track, an interest and course of study in cybersecurity and compliance.
• Interest and course of study in infrastructure (Networks/Servers/Desktop) Skills in Java, along with relational and object-oriented databases are desirable.
