Job description

• Summary: The Accounts Receivable Specialist is responsible for performing a variety of accounting and financial support functions within the Tribal Government accounting environment. This position provides primary accounts receivable support for both Tribal Government and Enterprise operations of the Yerington Paiute Tribe. Responsibilities include billing, collections, cash receipting, account reconciliation, record retention, customer service, and ensuring compliance with applicable Tribal, Federal, State, and grant requirements. The incumbent works closely with various Tribal departments, enterprises, and external agencies to ensure the accurate and timely processing of financial transactions.

Responsibilities

• Prepare, generate, and distribute monthly customer statements and invoices.
• Prepare and upload electronic billing for water and mini-storage accounts for online payment processing.
• Receive, review, and process cash receipts, credit card transactions, and local deposits.
• Verify, enter, and reconcile revenue transactions within the accounting system.
• Monitor and maintain accounts receivable records to ensure timely collection of outstanding balances.
• Resolve delinquent accounts by reviewing customer payment histories, payment plans, and collection activities.
• Prepare and process water shut-off notices and coordinate mini-storage lockouts when necessary.
• Audit and reconcile accounts including, but not limited to, Ranch Accounts, Water Accounts, Mini Storage, Loan Accounts, Rental Accounts, and Pesha Accounts.
• Coordinate with Housing Department staff regarding rental water charges, outstanding invoices, assignments, transfers, and payment deposits.
• Coordinate with the Ranch Manager regarding new allotments, account changes, billing, invoicing, and collections.
• Coordinate with the Tribal Court Clerk regarding payments, financial requests, and preparation of monthly financial reports.
• Maintain accurate documentation and provide copies of receipts and payment records as needed.
• Prepare journal entries and other accounting adjustments as assigned by the Deputy Administrator of Fiscal Operations (DAFO) or Assistant Deputy Administrator of Fiscal Operations.
• Coordinate billing and payments with Snyder and Walker River Basin entities.
• Assist in maintaining internal accounting controls to safeguard Tribal, Federal, State, and grant funds from unauthorized use or loss.
• Maintain comprehensive accounting files, source documentation, and records retention in accordance with Tribal, Federal, State, and granting agency requirements.
• Perform data entry and maintain accurate financial records within accounting systems.
• Assist with annual audits and provide requested documentation to auditors.
• Accept, document, reconcile, and deposit daily receipts and sales transactions.
• Crosstrain in other Finance Department functions assigned.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Knowledge of accounting principles, practices, and accounts receivable processes.
• Knowledge of computerized accounting systems and financial software applications.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, Word, and Outlook.
• Ability to accurately calculate, reconcile, and analyze financial transactions and records.

• Ability to maintain accurate financial records and prepare reports.

• Associate’s degree (A.A.) in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field preferred; or High School Diploma/GED and three (3) years of progressively responsible accounting experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the duties of the position.
• Or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the essential functions of the position may be considered.
• Previous experience in governmental, Tribal, or fund accounting is preferred.
• Demonstrated experience in accounts receivable, billing, collections, cash handling, and account reconciliation.
• Proven ability to calculate, post, reconcile, and manage accounting figures and financial records.
• Must possess and maintain a valid Nevada Driver's License.
• Must successfully pass a pre-employment drug screening
• Must successfully pass a background check.
