Job description

• Medication Renewal Center is part of the dynamic centralized services offered within The Patient Contact Center. The MRC CMA/RMA supports Carle Health Primary Care patient's medication management, adherence, and refill needs by providing advanced level patient care and support. MRC CMA/RMA's utilize Physician led guidelines and protocols to assist in efficient decision making and enhances patient compliance with health maintenance and chronic medication management. • This position has work from home opportunities after a minimum of 6 months of in-person training in Champaign, Illinois.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with Medication Renewal Center nursing and clerical teams to maximize productivity and efficiency.
• Complete medication refill requests, care gap notifications, and order entry using established protocols.
• Review and process medication renewal requests received electronically, by fax, or by telephone.
• Maintain accurate and thorough EMR documentation related to medication renewals, patient care needs, and follow-up activities.
• Receive and enter faxed refill requests, pharmacy communications, and medication orders into the EMR.
• Order and schedule laboratory work and patient appointments in accordance with protocols.
• Review patient medication compliance through detailed medical record analysis.
• Communicate medication orders to pharmacies through verbal and electronic methods.
• Provide patient health and wellness education using approved resources and provider-directed materials.
• Ensure documentation is complete, accurate, and compliant with departmental standards.
• Adhere to medication management, refill guidelines, and established clinical protocols.
• Coordinate with primary care providers, nurses, and care teams to support patient needs.
• Identify care gaps and promote adherence to chronic medication management plans.
• Review current, past, and future appointments and laboratory results to support safe medication administration.
• Communicate with pharmacies regarding medication discrepancies, clarification requests, and refill concerns.
• Contact patients regarding required laboratory work, office visits, and follow-up services needed for medication refills.
• Communicate medication changes to patients, providers, care teams, and pharmacies to reduce medication errors.
• Disseminate provider-approved patient education and instructions.
• Schedule patient appointments and verify insurance coverage.
• Process patient concerns using symptom-guided protocols and departmental procedures.
• Accurately collect, document, and report patient information within the EMR.
• Maintain compliance with organizational policies, procedures, and quality standards.
• Assist with onboarding, training, mentoring, and orientation of new team members.
• Provide float support to Patient Contact Center Clinical teams, including Patient Advisory Nurse (PAN) and Patient Clinical Services (PCS), as needed.
• Support medication management and patient care coordination in a non-face-to-face patient care environment.
• Manage high-volume medication refill workflows and pharmacy communications.
• Monitor patient compliance with prescribed medications and recommended care plans.
• Facilitate communication between patients, providers, pharmacies, and clinical staff to ensure continuity of care.

• Certifications: Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) (AMT) - American Medical Technologists (AMT); Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) (AAH) - American Allied Health (AAH); Nationally Registered Certified Medical Assistant (NRCMA) - National Association for Health Professionals (NAHP); Certified Medical Assistant (NCCT) - National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT); Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) - National Healthcareer Association (NHA); Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) - American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA); Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) (ARMA) - American Registry of Medical Assistants (ARMA), Education: H.S. • The compensation range for this position is $18.33per hour - $29.69per hour. This represents a good faith minimum and maximum range for the role at the time of posting by Carle Health. The actual compensation offered a candidate will be dependent on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s experience, qualifications, location, training, licenses, shifts worked and compensation model.
