Job description
- The Unified Configuration Management team within Cloud and Production Engineering is mission-critical to Docusign's reliability and deployment speed. We architect and maintain internal platforms for progressive delivery, providing the infrastructure for feature flagging, experimentation, and configuration management. Our scope extends to Change Insights, where we develop advanced correlation models to pinpoint incident root causes within minutes. We empower engineering teams to release features with velocity and confidence while ensuring our customers benefit from granular feature control and system stability.
- This position is an individual contributor role reporting to the Engineering Manager, Unified Configuration Management.
Responsibilities
- Design, author, and audit technical designs for features and components. Own the end-to-end delivery of well-defined features by executing assignments independently with moderate guidance
- Develop and maintain high-quality, scalable back-end services. This includes building and scaling the robust services, component libraries, and maintaining Terraform modules and CI/CD pipelines for safe deployments across Azure and GCP
- Author and own comprehensive testing plans, writing high-quality, reliable tests (unit, component, E2E). Drive quality by demonstrating competence in debugging across multiple components, environments, and external dependencies to ensure features are testable, observable, and safe to roll out
- Implement and refine telemetry (metrics, logs, traces), dashboards, and Service Level Objectives (SLOs). Participate in on-call rotations, perform Root Cause Analysis (RCA) for issues, and use data to drive operational improvements and strengthen runbooks
- Work within the Agile framework, proactively identifying dependencies and critical paths, proposing mitigation plans, and collaborating with cross-functional partners to resolve blockers. Drive continuous improvement by developing efficiencies to scale processes and staying current with emerging technologies
Requirements
- Basic
- Bachelor's or Master's in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent experience
- 3+ years of professional experience building back-end, platform, or reliability-focused services
- Experience with at least one modern programming language (C#, Java, or Go)
- Experience in distributed systems, data structures, and production reliability fundamentals
- Experience with web services, APIs (REST/gRPC), and working with JSON/structured data
- Experience with Git, complex CI/CD workflows, automated testing frameworks, and Agile practices
- Experience leveraging coding assistants (Claude, GitHub Copilot, etc.) for problem solving, debugging, profiling, and documentation
- Experience building and operating back-end services in Azure or GCP, with hands-on experience using Terraform and Infrastructure-as-Code
- Expertise in progressive delivery, configuration management, or feature-flagging systems (e.g., Optimizely)
- Experience with observability tooling (OpenTelemetry, Prometheus, Grafana) to debug system health and correlate incidents
- Strong incident response background: experience with on-call rotations, root-cause analysis (RCA), and operational readiness reviews
- Demonstrated ability to own features end-to-end, including design trade-offs, rollout strategies, and post-launch support
