Space Launch Systems (SLS) Stress Analyst Engineer (ES4) at Amentum in US-AL-Huntsville

Job description

• The Structural Analyst will perform structural strength analysis for non-flight hardware. This work is in support of the Space Launch System (SLS) program as well as other new and existing programs at NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center (MSFC).

Responsibilities

• Development of formal stress analysis packages for ground support and special test equipment using strength of materials and finite element-based methods.
• Interfacing with design engineers to provide inputs to preliminary designs
• Development and delivery of reports and presentations to management
• Collaboration with outside vendors and personnel from other NASA centers in the development of structural hardware

Requirements

• A degree in Civil, Structural, or Mechanical Engineering or other Engineering field from an ABET accredited institution is required.
• Ph.D. with some experience
• MS with at least 3 years of experience, or
• BS with at least 8+ years of experience.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office products such as PowerPoint, Excel, and Word is required.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.
• Proficiency in one or more of the major commercial finite element codes (e.g., FEMAP, PATRAN, NASTRAN, ABAQUS, or ANSYS).
• Experience in the application of finite element methods and the assessment of failure mechanisms such as rupture, yield, buckling, and fatigue.
• Experience in analysis of joints containing mechanical fasteners or welds.
• Proof of U.S. Citizenship is required.
